Default Record SC sale?

Auto Kennel in Costa Mesa, CA is listing a "Sale Pending" SC. The car I believe was only on the site for a day before it showed being sold. $97,990. I'm assuming it was agreed upon at full price.

https://autokennel.com/1982-porsche-911-sc-coupe-3/

Is this the highest you've seen an SC sell for?

interesting stuff

Only 20K yet already had a top end rebuild and 4 previous owners.

I sure wouldn't pay that ....

I was thinking the same thing. I love SC's. But this seems way high.

Well, if you can overlook the incorrect headlights and the chin lip it's not a bad looking car.

^i saw the car. It was a very nice example (including undercarriage as it was on a lift) but I was scratching head too about the top end rebuild. AutoKennel is top notch. They, and many others, are starting to see the value in original, clean SC's - to a great extent, they have been undervalued.

That is serious money. I mean, it's beautiful, it's clean, mostly original. But just shy of 100k seems like quite a bit for not just that SC, but the market too. Surprised it pulled that much even with those color options... Not to say I don't love a little Black and White.

The miles are a huge selling point here though..

Sloan had a 5k mile SC for which they were asking $125k a couple years ago, not sure what it sold for.

SC's are terrific cars, not many with 20k miles on them as most were DD when new. Paul know's car market as well as anyone, his listings generally sell very quickly.

THE 78-83sc was perhaps the last good bargin.
(74-77 were also the cheapest of the cheap to buy at one point)

I never turn away from a SC. However i am not actively hunting them over $50k no matter how good they are.
Last one i bought was super clean but had 90k miles. $25k.

$90s is alot of money. Long hood money.

I completely agree. There is some lag in perception vs reality when it comes to prices for nice SC's. It took me over a year to find my car, a 78' low mile (37k) no sunroof low/no option car. I paid around $50k for it and I had people telling me I way over paid. The thing is, though, I had looked at other SC's and scoured what was on the market for over a year. I saw nothing amazing. I saw high mile cars with wear and or issues. Driving and seeing many made me realize how great and rare mine is. When my lease on my 14 Cayman was nearing its end I took one look at those new models with 4cyl turbo engines and knew it was time to lock in a classic. Late model P cars are awesome but so much tech and plastic and size and huge costs associated with those tech and sizes when maintenance comes around. I was paying $1800 for front brakes... because the tires were 20" they were $$$.. the 14 Cayman was a great car but my 78 SC is so much more for less and its appreciating quickly too. Frosting on an already tasty cake. One more thing. The long hoods? Amazing looking cars, but for me, the early SC is the BEST!

I can tell you first hand with my recent Ebay listing of my Talbot Yellow 1980 SC the demand is picking up for genuine SC's. I did not sell mine at the multiple offers I recieved.

My SC is a absolute gem believe me but every now and then I like to see the market. Thats all.

But at the right price I'm always a seller

Wow, 97K for an SC. I would never do it, and I say this as an SC owner.
