911SC Bizarre Electrical Issue
I have a 1978 911SC and driving home on Friday the car stalled twice while driving but since I was rolling it just restarted. Saturday turned the ignition to the on position, tach/oil light/gen light flickered then died.
Now with ignition in the on position I have: Radio, Sunroof, Headlights high and low beam, starter, interior lights.
I don't have power windows, fuel pump, cdi box, revers/brake lights, tach, oil/generator lights, seatbelt parking brake lights.
I checked the fuses they are all good. I jumped the fuel pump by supplying 12V from battery to pin 30 and fuel pump turns on.... Ignition switch has good springback and feels solid. I am stumped

It turns over, but wont start. The fuel pump isn't getting power. I ran the pump by powering the #30 terminal but still didn't start so I am guessing no spark now either. I swapped the fuel pump and horn relay but nada

Understood. Ignition switch comes to mind immediately but let's not assume anything yet
So what are the results of the following
1. Ignition on remove air filter and lift air plate
Hear anything ?
2. Remove main lead from coil and place it against a ground while cranking ( don't touch it)
Any spark ?

I was thinking ignition switch too, it just feels so solid and jiggling the key doesn't create any sort of activity. The car has PMO's on it so the whole CIS system is gone. The pump usually energizes once the ignition is in the on position.

You may as well take the grounds apart & clean them -- needs to be done every decade or 2 anyway.
If the fuel pump was powered with known voltage then it has to be good, right?
But 13.0 is a tad low. Maybe you have only a surface charge on the batt.
You can also try pulling the electrical portion off the back of the keyed part of the ign. switch and checking there.
Is there any clicking from the starter?

Yeah fuel pump is working ok. I messed with the ignition switch a bit but decided to take the wuss way out and got it trucked to a shop. I put a new ignition switch in my 65 and it was a pain in the butt... that one kept giving me the smoking light switch... Ill keep you guys posted what the shop finds

Turns out its a corroded harness that goes from ignition switch to starter and other places... so should be getting a new harness from Germany end of the week... so that's the verdict
