Default does anyone know where to rent a stick shift in LA?

MY 23-year-old son lives in Los Angeles (West Hollywood area) and needs to quickly learn how to drive a stick for a job he just got. I live in Texas so I'm not able to teach him. Does anyone know where he can rent one? Just a basic car or even pick up. If so, I have a friend out there (Calabasas) who will teach him. In fact, renting one near Calabasas would be even better. Thank you.

He doesn't know any wanna be actors/actresses that drive a stick and would be happy to make $50 for an hour driving around a parking lot? Outside of renting a sports car, sticks are tough to come by.

check craigslist, or have him find a gardener with an old pickup and offer them $20 to teach him stick.

let me guess- during the interview process they say driving a stick is a requirement.. and he said no problem!!! Love itwe all would have done the same thing.

Check on a local tool rental place that has backhoes , small dump-trucks etc.- not a major name rental yard the dumpy one hidden in a neighborhood somewhere.

Rent a small dump truck with a low first gear - he will be a pro in less than an hour.

Yep, I did the exact same thing 37 years ago. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Got a job as a valet and the very first car that came in was an orange Saab Sonnet. Waited til the guy went inside, stalled it once or twice but eventually got it parked. My job interview consisted of some guy asking if I was old enough to drive. Now they require a drug test.

Amazing at 23 years old he doesn't already know how to. I learned at 12 how to drive a stick and took me literally 10 min and that was even mastering the hills. easy peazy.

I totally agree. I learned when I was 16 on my friend's 1968 Ford Cortina. I think it took about 30 minutes. The challenge kids face today isn't a lack of desire to learn but rather access to a manual. Not a single one of his friends has a stick. All my friends with a manual have a P-Car, Vette, vintage car, etc. and aren't willing to let someone learn on it.

I could drive my grandfather's semi's when I was 10.

My son in law was offered my 911 for their honeymoon and had to turn it down because he couldn't drive stick. What a moron.

Try Beverly Hills Rent a Car. I'd offer one up, but neither of mine are suitable for learning.

Problem solved.

http://www.stickshiftlessons.net/

My son said it went great and the owner and instructor, Nima was super nice.

When doing a Google search lots of car rental companies come up as offering manual transmissions but when calling, none of them have them. This solution worked out well given our situation.

great.

Sorry, I should have thought to recommend Nima in the first place. I answered your question instead of solving your problem.
