Paint shop in Orange County, CA
So I am looking at picking up another car, and I want to get it painted.
For years, I had the best deal ever - a low volume painter that was 20 minutes from home and did fantastic work. He was not cheap, but the work was magnificent.
Now, he is retiring at age 65 and moving to Oregon and will no longer paint cars. He's earned it.
Who 's good in Orange County for paint? We're talking classic 911s here, someone who knows how to paint the whole car and is not some massive collision center.
Ideas????

the eternal issue - painters. So many flakes, so few good, the good are backed up forever and $ and take too much work ... good techs I've got.
Good luck, id like same. I'm doing some paintwork (not a full paint job) on my 964 and will be using a small paint shop near my shop, they are pretty good, but 911 work is not their speciality like Eposito.

Well the guy I was using was charging 15-18k for a complete, and it was done in 6-8 weeks. This was full inside and outside painting of the tub, as well as underneath. The quality was amazing.
Just one old guy and a helper. My Mexico Blue turbo targa has the most ridiculously good paint job ever and this guy did it.
The dude is dead set on closing shop and won't name a successor. He's just done after 40+ years of doing it.

^^ I'd LOVE a guy like this. That's a bargain for that sort of paint work in SoCal.
Good luck in the hunt.

That's is a good deal if he disassemble and put everything back for $16K and it took only 6 weeks. I know of an excellent painter in Northern CA but he can't remove the engine so you need to bring it to him somewhat stripped so he will take it to bare metal. Same story. One man shop with a helper.

no....not disassemble. Let me qualify that a minute.
On my last car, I brought him a stripped out tub for that price. The doors, hood, and frunk lid were mounted, but it was a bare tub (roller) besides that.
Of course he can do all that, but at his age he gets picky and won't take it if it looks like too much work. I build all my own projects anyways so taking it down to a bare tub was no biggie.
Yeah don't rub it in I miss this guy already, he is just determined to close shop. Can't say I blame him.

Another alternative is GA Coachwork in San Diego. I have seen a number of cars (all early Porsche's) at Wayne Baker's shop for assembly after George and crew at GA finish them. The work is outstanding and very high quality. George knows the nuances of what finishes in what order and where they belong on our cars.

Maybe swing by Wayne's on the way down and visit his shop. He's assembling a light yellow 356 that GA painted right now. That's what made me think about them. Pretty sure there may be another car or two that they are restoring. You may also chat with Wayne and his two guys about your cases; they build several race motors every year. I'd be happy to meet you there; I drop in a few times a week... Nick

John Esposito in North Hollywood only does Porsches and his work is exceptional and well know, but I don't think you could get it done at the price you were paying.
