Default 1st time Porsche

I am purchasing my 1st Porsche in the next couple of weeks. I have narrowed my search down to 2 964s. First is a 90 C2, 65k miles asking $51,500 and second is 93 C4 with 86K miles asking $46,500. Had a leak down and compression test on both cars, and both engines are solid.

Can anyone offer opinions on either of these cars, maintenance, drivability, cost of ownership, etc.

Thanks

Maintainence wise I'd be tempted to say if they are both in good condition it should be pretty comparable. The C4 has a bit of a time bomb in the form of the planetary gears in the AWD system ( they seem to go fail from time to time) if they go its muy, muy expensive to fix. C2s are pretty simple and rugged, the 3.6s have some weird failures here and there but they are very reliable. Might be better to ask this in the 964 forum for future reference, this is the forum for the original 911 (up to 1989 excluding 89 C4)

Hello and congrats on the upcoming purchase. I'm including a link to our site's DIY tech articles on the 964 platform in case you're going to be doing the maintenance of repairs down the line. Please let us know if you have any questions and let's see some photos when you get it!
