Ordered some 22mm front and rear Weltmeister sway bars the other day, I didn't relize that it looks like I have to remove the fuel tank to install the front one. It looks pretty simple, but is there anything I should know about fuel tank removal in a 84 Carrera.
Thanks,
Nick

Nick,
When I installed the Weltmeister 22mm front sway bar on my 81SC, I didn't remove the tank. Don't believe anything changed that would require you to remove your tank. The hardest part was getting the inside support bracket in so you could bolt it onto the piece on the outside of the wheel well by the suspension. I used a hanger to maneuver it into position, and after starting one bolt, undid the wire. The directions that come with it are pretty good, as I recall.

Bill is absolutely, positively, undoubtedly 100% correct in saying you do NOT have to remove the fuel tank...his hanger procedure seems the "ticket" as well, been there, done that.
Also, when you get your swaybars, they should come with a good set of directions...another good tip is to locate the faint outline of a triangular embossed area in your fenderwell - this is exactly where you will drill your holes for the mounting/support plates.
Okay, one more good tip...get yourself, or borrow a UNIBIT, it's a step-down drill bit that looks like a modified lawn mower blade balancer...you will need one to drill a 1" hole (??) in the center of that triangular area mentioned earlier.
Get the larger one, I believe there are only two sizes, I own the smaller one and had to borrow the larger one as the smaller only drills up to 3/4" and the larger one goes to 1", you will have to drill a starter hole for the larger UNIBIT though, the smaller one is self starting.
DID THAT MAKE ANY SENSE??
Good luck with your install.

You do not have to remove it. If it was already out, it *would* make it easier, but the labor in removing the tank is greater than the amount of time you'd save.
