Default Please help me pick.

I was on the market for a 930 that was sold way over my budget so I decided to be more down to earth and pick one of these two 911s.
I live in Greece (work hard and pay my taxes) so the market is quite small for such cars as there arent too many to chose from.
I want a convertible or a targa because the weather is always nice here and this will be a keeper as it will be my final folly.
I know nothing technical about 911s other than I need one and by searching the forum I got even more confused.
Please share some thoughts and help an old fart accomplish his dream.
Thank you.

The Targa is a much more honest Porsche. The Cabriolet has "Updated" bumpers from a 964. Everyone that knows Porsche knows it isn't a 964 the second they see it. You will spend the rest of your life justifying this poor thing. Better to start with an original car.

I love the black targa but not a big fan of the tail.

I won't comment on the cab as I just don't know the cars , Doug knows these cars well

But I agree with randy I don't like the big Tail on the targa but it is s personal taste
Looks like a very poor redo of the targa roof. I bet it makes a ton of noise
Definitely get your choice checked by a qualified mechanic.

Thanks for your answers and private messages.
It seems that the right decision is the targa one.
Inspection showed a rebuild and almost 180.000 km on the chassis.
Shocks are at 70/100 and in good order and brakes also.
Will need a clutch soon.
The tail, I think I can live with it or revert to original condition.
Any more thoughts to share before I dive into it?
thank you once again

The Cab seems to be a well-done conversion to the 964 bumpers, and it's a 3.2L Carrera for less money than the Targa, which is a 1981SC. Something's not right there, I think even in the States with the molested bumpers on the Cab it would be worth more than the SC. Maybe the Cab has a lot more mileage?

The Cab seems to have been a repaint, as the stickers in the engine bay are gone. Engine looks very clean and well presented. The engine lid seems to be from a 964, which means it has an electric spoiler that lifts at speed (it is on the air intake). I'd be curious if that works, it would likely have to be a manual switch now. Not a big deal if it doesn't raise.

Amber is right, a lot of purists won't like the conversion. But how many of those people are you going to run into? And if you like it, I think that's all that matters. This one seems to be really nicely done.

I obviously love the Targas, but to me this one looks a little ratty. If these are your only realistic choices, and you like a Cab, then I think the Cab is the clear choice once you understand the difference in pricing better. I could learn to live with the bumpers. I think it has a much nicer look to it than the Targa.

How is the service situation in Greece? The Targa has CIS injection, which can have issues. Plenty of help here to help you troubleshoot if it gives you problems, but if you can't do it yourself, I would be worried about finding a good shop that knows the system. The 3.2L engine is much more modern and I would think easier to find a good mechanic to fix.

Thanks for the information.
Regarding service In Greece we have two options.
Main dealer in Athens an antoher indipendent dealer near Athens area who imports and trades Porsche.
They both have a good rep with the indy being cheaper and more flexible regarding OEM parts and conversions.
Unfortunatelly the cabrio does not have a "clean" title as most of the 911s of that era in Greece.
Maybe this justifies the price and also makes me wonder if the conversion is a result of an accident.
No carfax here, so...
These are the only ones on the market at the moment at least at my price range
and also https://www.car.gr/8178078-porsche-911-964-turbo-3-3, this one.
Here is a complete list for you to browse. I guess I will either have to keep on dreaming or take a deep breath and dive.

Ah, I understand. It occurred to me that the Cab might also have been a coupe or Targa conversion. We could help with that if you can get the VIN I think.

Good luck, tough choices with such limited options. What about expanding the search into other EU countries? As long as they are EU cars, would you have trouble getting them into Greece? Or would there be import taxes that would kill the deal?

Believe it or not, importing a non Euro5 car, aka conventional technology would add 340% to the purchase price and this is a true story.
So I guess I just have to pick from what ever available.

And if you near the asking price for this it can melt your brain.
Quoted as "reasonable for such a remarkable 80s icon".
