Question misrepresentation of "75 911s vs '74 base?

I'm looking at a "1975 911s" which has been recently re-built by the mechanic/seller. Something sticks out and gut checking with those far more knowledgeable than I.

Originally US car now in Canada.
- Doorjam plate states year of manufacture as 1975 but shows code #9114101255.
- Frunk plate states same code.
- That code shows a 1974 911 base 110kw as opposed to what should be a 911520xxxx code.
- the body has black anodized window trim announcing a '75 911s

misc data:
- '75 Carrera whaletail but deck lid could have been changed
- left sided chrome mirror
- original interior velour trim

am I thinking right that this could be a misrepresented/replated '75 911s body w '74 base mechanicals? Or just a late year build?

I caught the engine serial but not the type#. looking at it again tomorrow for a PPI from some real pros.

appreciate the input as a n00b in this vintage.

you may want to ask your question on pelican as well.

A 75 is a 75 regardless of when it was built. You may have some 74 parts from the factory ( round ***** on seats etc.)on a 75 , which I do on mine but it's a 75. Very common to pull a part out of a bin during that era of hand built cars. I am sure tail was added sometime during it's life. Does the seller have a COA? That would certainly answer some of your questions regarding build date and what this car really is / is not.

Another area to look at for dates are the wheels. If you do a PPI, take off the wheels and see what dates they have. Spare tire would also have date- my 75 has 74 date code on the spare. Does it have Frankfurt radio? if so the code tag on radio would also give you date range.

All 74/75 had chrome or black drivers mirror.
Rare but original- a few had mirrors painted body color. most you see today are not original.
You may want to check Red book for options on black window molding. Not sure if it was an option or added sometime during it's life.

If your gut is telling you something isn't right.. lsiten to it.

There should be 4 spots for the vin.

1) Drivers window post
2) Drivers door sticker ( but these can be ordered today with any dates/ any vin)
3) stamped just below smuggler lid in frunk
4) silver tag in frunk riveted on passenger side

I can think of a few more places one can find the VIN that are not widely known.

Don't freak when the stamp is ZZZ

Just to close the loop on this one....it was in fact a MY75 manufactured in '74 w a base 110kw engine. seller changed out pistons during rebuild for 911s output. found third VIN by smugglers lid. Thanks for the input. ended passing on it following PPI.

Don't be bummed , with each car you look at and pass on you learn a little bit more. I tell myself I need to look at 15 cars to find a good one.

Just helped a friend buy a 66 Mustang - looked at 20+ cars, then the right one appeared. he is the 3rd owner, super clean car, exceptional mechanicals and was reasonably priced. Good luck in your search.
