No problem, Jeff.

For your info, an '89 Anniversary Cab with 98 K miles sold in Sept on eBay for $28,200 & a coupe with 106K for $15,801 in Nov.

Beat him down!

Jay H, thanks for that. I didn't expect it to be any of the special editions - was just curious. Agreed that the centre console is cool.

I'm assuming that the adverse effect on aerodynamics that you are referring to would be some comparative lift (or less downforce so to speak) from the rear of the car. That is definitely NOT a good thing
Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of the whale tail so will have to look at removing the font lip. Shame, though.

Edit:
p.s. who says your car colour's wierd? I think it's one of the nicest I've seen.

Puf:

You are correct in that you wouldn't have balanced downforce (as designed by Porsche) with using just one spoiler.

Thanks for the compliment on my car!

Regards,

Jay

Paul,

That's news to me. All US '89 3.2 cars came standard with 6 x 16 and 8 x16 Fuchs. Its was the only year the 8's (instead of the previous 7's) were offered as standard in the rear. I've still got some '89 factory marketing brochures, and the spec sheet shows them, including Euro/ROW cars, as having 6's and 8's as well.

I wasn't aware that any narrow body non-Turbo 3.2's ever came from the factory with 7's and 9's, although its certainly a common aftermarket upgrade. Do you have any other information to verify this?

Thanks,
Tim

I have a S.A.E. and am under the impression that I have 16x9's in back. (the wider wheels were an option on the S.A.E. Cars) I'll have to go into the garage and take a rear wheel off..

I am just doing a new book, after Speedster and Turbo books..

The new one will be called: "Porsche 911 - Aircooled Years 1974 - 1989."

At the moment I am spending a lot of time with the different "special editions" of the 911.

The 911 "25 Years" was built in 1988 and 1989.

You can see the badge for the US-market on the picture below.

Default looking for the brochure

The '88 cars, as KC911 noted, and which are described in the link you cite, are Commemorative Edition cars. 250,000 911's, not a 25th anniversary.

The '89 Silver Anniversary cars (coupes and cabs only) are fairly well documented, and the factory produced a large format brochure (I think I still have one lying around somewhere) to sell the '89 Silver Anniversary package, which, as I recall was a $5,000 or so option.

Tim
Hello Tim,

I am looking for the original brochure, or very good images of the brochure.
I want to show it in our new 911 book (aircooled years 1974-1989).

thank you,
Andreas

Default 911 Book "Aircooled Years 1974 - 1989" by Berlin Motorbooks

That was/is a distinct '89 only package. I'm familiar with the Tobias Aichele book, and it repeats the error, IMO, by using the phrase "anniversary" when otherwise properly describing the reason (250,000 911's) for the Diamond Blue '88 cars. I've never seen any factory documentation (see KC911's earlier post re the '88 line brochure) that refers to the the '88's as anniversary cars. Those were the silver or black '89's. The ad is incorrect, and I hope the cat is dead, or at least not feeling well.

Jon,
LSD was not a part of the SA option package, but I'm sure it could still have been ordered separately.

Tim
Hello John,

I got all details from the porsche-archieve concerning all special editions of the G-model.

A first review for the book is available here:

have a nice day,
Andreas
