Default 1989 Silver Anniversary edition Specs

Does anyone know what the specs are to the 89' Silver anniversary edition 911 coupes especially the weight? I am interested in one and it is nice but it seems to have alot of stuff on it I really don't care for and I am wondering if it weighs a lot more than the 87' and 88' 911s.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon,

I can't think of anything (perhaps the sliverknit carpets in the trunk added a couple of pounds over the standard perlon?) that would make these cars weigh any significant amount more than any other '89 coupe, i.e. a curb weight, per the factory, of roughly 2,750 lbs.

Unless of course the silver painted Fuchs added unsprung weight over the anodized versions.

Good luck,
Tim

Jon,

If you don't like the options, then you should hold off for the "right" one. I think the weight difference is minimal, the only difference being the carpet in the trunk.

Thanks Guys. I thought there was more of difference than just the carpet, like the bigger console, rear wiper, cruise control, headlight washers, etc.

THe 25th Jubilee edition is nothing but cosmetics over the regular carrera 3.2s. But you do get Ferry Porsche signature on the headrest. That's good for 5hp per signature right? Comes with IMHO a very nice diamond blue metallic paint with matchin 16 Fuch wheels. Upgraded carpet (added weight?). But to me the best gotta be the smaller 3-spoke GT steering wheel over the regular donuts. since it's not better performer than the regular 911s, it shouldn't fetch too much a premium. YMMV.

Delhi, I've never heard of the '88 Commemorative Editions that you described being referred to as "Jubilee Editions", although they are sometimes called "Signature Editions" because of the F.P. signature on the headrest that you described. Those are NOT the same cars as the '89 Anniversary Editions that Jon asked about. You are correct in that both series are primarily a cosmetic package, but at least for the CE (in Diamond Blue Metallic), they are georgous cars (I'm biased...I have a coupe)! I'm not 100% sure, but I think that "maybe" the short shift kit on mine came with the CE package. I'm sure the '89s are beautiful too, and even they're both cosmetic packages, they are "still" 3.2s with the G-50 trannys...and that's NOT a bad thing!

ps: In my experience, they usually do command a premium...how much??? I don't know how much of that is due to the "package", or how much is due to the fact that all of them that I've seen are VERY nice cars with low mileage.

I am not aware of 89 CE editions. Only '88 25th Jubilee/Anniversary editions.
Oh yeah it does comes with the short shifter. I am just saying that unless one is looking for a collector's 911 it should not command too high a premium. There's one 25th Anniversary coupe that's going for a few grand more than similar mileage 89 coupe. For me it'll be driven as a daily driver in the summer months so it would kinda nullify the collector's status as it rack up typical mileage as opposed to a garage queen.

Hi Delhi! I think you've got it backwards...there are no 89' CE's (only '88), just as there are no '88 Anniversary Editions (only '89s). Since I've never heard anything called the Jubilee Ed. I don't know which one that might be referring to. To recap...the Commemorative Editions (in Diamond Blue w/ the signature on the headrests) were only offered in '88 to commemorate the 250,000th 911 produced. The Anniversary (or Silver Anniversary) Edition (in silver) was only produced in '89 as the 25th anniversary of the marque.

edited. Here's a link I remember seeing earlier on Pelican:

Well, just to confuse this issue a little further...

The '89 Silver Anniversary cars denoted the 25th anniversary of 911 production, not the marque. (That was marked by the prodution of the "first" Silver Anniversary car, a limited edition silver '75 911)

Additionally, not all '89 SA cars were silver. A handful came in satin black metallic as well.

It seems Porsche alternates between 1963 (the 911 debut at the Frankfurt show) and 1964 (when actual 911 production began) as the date to denote milestones in the car's history. I.E. the current '03 40th anniversary car, as well as the violet metallic '93 30th anniversary (non-US) cars use the '63 date, while the '89 uses the '64 production date as the starting point. Not that Porsche would ever make crass marketing decisions on an arbitrary basis....

I've seen the '75 and the '93 cars referred to (outside the US) as Jubilees ("Jubi's"), but not the '88 CE cars.

All is clear as mud now.

check http://www.performance2and4.co.uk/

"Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Anniversary.
To commemorate 25years of 911 production an Anniversary Carrera was offered. Sometimes referred to as a 'Jubilee'. Only 875 cars were manufactured, including coupe, Targa and cabriolet. Painted in Diamond blue metallic, the difference was inside. The leather interior was in a unique 'metallic' blue (very eighties), with 'F. Porsche' embossed in the head restraints of the front seats and a silver blue silk velour carpet. I believe they were largely the same specification, with spoiler package, 16" Fuchs and sport suspension"

In there it talks about the Jubilee/Anniversary edition that's produced in '88. Only 800ish were built. I guess it's called the Jubilee edition in Canada then. I always thought US and Canadian 911s are the same.
This '89 model is a new one to me.

Yes it is Tim ! Thanks for clarifying...I was really thinking '911 production', but incorrectly used "marque" instead. As far as the '89s go, I'd read that a few came in 'satin black metallic', but as far as I know, I've never seen one...does anyone have a pic they could post of one is that color?

Hi Delhi! Maybe it's a Europe/US thing, but that website would not appear to be correct according to the documentation that I have. I've got an original brochure that the PO gave me when I purchased my car, and it's titled "1988 Special Edition Models". In it, it describes the offerings for the 911, 944, and 924S (depicted in the 'satin black metallic'...so now I no longer need to see a pic of that color). For the 911, the brochure only refers to it as a 'Commemorative Edition'...in fact, the term 'Anniversary' is not used throughout the brochure in describing any of the three offerings. Now it's really cleared up isn't it ?

Delhi,

That website is not correct. I've also seen a similar incorrect blend of information on a Dutch enthusiast's website.

The '88 cars, as KC911 noted, and which are described in the link you cite, are Commemorative Edition cars. 250,000 911's, not a 25th anniversary.

The '89 Silver Anniversary cars (coupes and cabs only) are fairly well documented, and the factory produced a large format brochure (I think I still have one lying around somewhere) to sell the '89 Silver Anniversary package, which, as I recall was a $5,000 or so option.

Guys,
The 89 Silver Ann. Edition has a couple of unique items. Heavier/thicker carpet, a special console, matching grey leather on door panels and on part of the dash, matching wheels (7 and 9's), matching seats w/black piping, matching steering wheel. There were 240 coupes made in the light silver color and I believe only 60 coupes in black. I don't have #'s on the cabs. The car gets alot of attention. I've had mine for 18 months now.

Mark,

Actually, they came with the same size 6" and 8" x 16's as all other '89's.
