@r911 - Great suggestion. Unfortunately, the service receipts are fairly scarce. PO did most of the work himself. There is a reputable shop in Fort Myers that serviced the car, and I spoke with them generally while I was actively bidding on eBay. I will probably follow-up with them to grab copies of whatever service records they may have, as I think they maintained the car even before the PO bought it.

As for other immediate safety needs, I'm not being hyperbolic in saying that the car is currently being *entirely* refreshed. Engine out; complete disassembly and rebuild with all new bearings, hardware, lines, etc.; all mechanical systems inspected, replaced, refreshed, refurbished, etc. Full WEVO kit with internal gate. New Griffith's AC retrofit with upgraded lines, condensers, new compressor, etc. My mechanic is brilliantly obsessive, which is why we get along so well.

So, we're essentially starting from scratch. I'll continue to hunt down the car's history, if only because I enjoy the research and the exercise itself, but what this car will be pretty much starts with my ownership.

Is Body Motion doing the work?

Not this one. Working with a local mechanic with an interesting background. Cut his teeth working for years with private Porsche race teams, and has had a presence here in the Memphis area quite a while.

Bodymotion built the Cayman with the Vision motor. I considered BGB, Raby, Vision, and DeMan for the rebuild after the 3.4 finally let go. John at BGB actually sent me to Mike and Geoff at Bodymotion for the particular build I wanted, and they've been wonderful to work with.

If I was in Memphis I would have Pat Williams do my air cooled engines. Almost had him do a Cayman 3.4 for me but the seller on the car flaked so I bought a car out here instead.

Yeah, Pat and I don't see eye to eye on certain things. I'll leave it at that. He's a brilliant engine builder to be certain. The guy who has my car now was his business partner for many years.

Not everyone is compatible. I would never in my life work with Raby, for example.

Precisely. Nor would I. And we talked at length when I was contemplating options for the Cayman. I don't do well with the guys who talk to you like they're god's gift to the Porsche world, and who expressly or impliedly make you feel that you should be honored to pay them a f*cking fortune to have them work on your car . . .

best to assume nothing was done by the PO - tho he may have parts receipts

you'll want to renew suspension bushings or switch to a better design

and check the date codes on the tires

Thanks. Tires are 2 years old, and we are addressing suspension now as well.

I suppose the word "addressing" is not as accurate as "assessing" at this point. Sorry.

The car already has Bilstein sports all the way around, and the bushings all look to be in good shape. Performed very well on the drive home from FL to TN. No vibration, noise, excessive bounce, slop, or harsh ride. Visible inspection all checks out, so if I do upgrade, it might just be to a decent set of camber plates, turbo tie-rods, and a strut tower up front. Possibly upgrade to Elephant bushings and torsion bars, but this car won't see the track, so I want to be cautious about going crazy on suspension mods out of the box. Plenty there to enjoy as it is.
