A frozen compressor, most likely, from running the A/C with no charge. See if the center nut turns the shaft.

Hi John, yes you can replace just the clutch. They are available from various parts sources, either new or remanufactured, from about $150.00 for reman, to $200.00 for new. You might even find them cheaper than this.

Hi John, I get my parts thru:http:
www.advancedporscheparts.com
I have not found any other source that can beat their prices. The R/R is pretty straight forward.
1. Remove clutch elect. conn.
2. Remove belt
3. Hold a/c clutch drive plate stationary, in order to remove retaining nut
4. Remove drive plate and pulley to access mag. winding
5. Remove spacers
6. Remove circlip, slide mag. coil off.
Installation is the reverse. When reinstalling, the correct spacing between drive plate and pulley is 0.4 - 0.7mm (0.016 - 0.028in)
This is just a basic overview of the procedure, to give you an idea of what is involved. BTW, you DO NOT remove any freon lines for this.

I forgot to mention, If anyone knows of another OEM parts source that is as reasonable on pricing, and with FREE SHIPPING on orders of $50.00 or more, please share that info. I must say, I have no connection to the place I mentioned in post except from having used them in past and being very happy with the deals.

I don't know if they are interchangable or not but I have a AC compressor off my 1987-944S that the compressor is toast but the clutch is fine,I would let it go for $50.00 plus shipping.

Try Compressors International in Van Nuys, CA. I think I paid less than $200 for a rebuilt compressor WITH a clutch.
