Where can i buy Cosmoline?
The winter storage tips I received from a Porsche dealer suggest applying cosmoline, "if required". I have a few bare spots. Anyone know where I can purchase a case, and how it is best applied?

Good one! I should have stored all the stuff I stripped off my engine/tranny and sold it back! :-)
You do not need to do this, the car if fine without it.

Cosmoline is used by the factory on every car that is produced.
And for good reason, although there are a lot of cosmoline haters on this board it provides excellent protection of alloy parts against corrosion.
If you are driving in winter conditions with salt on the road it is a very bad idea to remove cosmoline. If you do not drive during winter I see no need to reapply.
I removed mine all together as my car is a "sunny weather" car only. No need for the stuff.

For rust protection on interior and exterior body panels and other components not subject to heat, there is nothing better than Krown T-40. Testing at work and 20 years of personal use in our harsh winters has proven the product.

Chuck is onto me... I have to admit that I was reading Cactus' turkey/Xenit thread and thought it would be funny to make my post. I wondered if I could get a rise out of Andreas or Oh Prickley One. My dealer instructions DO say to apply cosmoline. Now, I'd never even heard of the stuff until everyone here started putting so much effort into removing it. The result of my "bait" thread is that I now know what it is, what Porsche uses, were to get some, and a tried and tested alternative that I may use on the A3. Thanks everyone!!

I can see it now. 30 years from now, on a TV show called "Hans & Frans, Two German Car Guys at Ze BJ Auctions" where they are discussing the skyrocketing values of 911s...and examining highly collectible examples of 993/964....they are commenting on the correct cosmoline spray pattern on the engine, build sheets, flag mirrors + D90s on 964, and OMG, engine undertrays!!!
Sorry...just can't resist.
