Information Regarding Recall:
April 2nd e-mail from PCNA:
Dear xxxxxxx,

You must be eagerly awaiting the arrival of your new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Our teams in Weissach and Zuffenhausen have passionately engineered and manufactured this special vehicle and we wish we could let you know that it is now ready for you to drive and enjoy.

Unfortunately, we need to inform you about an unanticipated delay to this vision. Your vehicle is subject to a safety recall; and consistent with federal law and our own practices, we can only deliver your vehicle after the following concern is addressed.

We have recently discovered that the connecting rods installed in the engine of your vehicle may not meet Porsche specifications. In extreme cases, this could lead to severe engine damage.

Please rest assured that we are working very diligently towards the technical solution. Because of the highly specialized nature of the engines, we currently anticipate a delay of three to six months in order to complete the required work.

We will provide you with additional details as soon as reasonably possible.

Sincerely,

Glenn Garde

April 13th update per PFF German forum reply from PAG (translated):
"As part of internal quality controls, it was regrettably determined that a batch was received for vehicles of the type 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, 718 Spyder and 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, which were manufactured between January 19, 2021 and March 4, 2021 Connecting rods were installed that do not meet our specifications.

Specifically, it is about the screw connections of the connecting rods. These could loosen over the life of the vehicle due to a manufacturing defect at the supplier's. Additional quality measures are required on the engine of the affected vehicles.

The affected customers will be informed directly by post from their Porsche Center in the next few weeks about the exact facts and the further procedure.

996 vehicles are affected worldwide. Of these, however, only 206 have already been delivered to customers. These vehicles are called back to the workshop via a customer letter. All others are brought up to date in the factory before delivery.

There is a time lag in the remedial action due to a delivery bottleneck at the supplier of the connecting rod. According to current knowledge, the campaign will unfortunately not be able to be carried out before week 20.

The delivered vehicles can continue to be used by the customer until the measure is carried out. However, we recommend that you refrain from using it on circuits or under full load. If in the meantime unusual noises are heard from the engine compartment or the oil pressure warning lights up in the instrument cluster, the vehicle should be parked immediately and contact Porsche Assistance or the Porsche Center by telephone."

April 17th e-mail from PCNA:
Please accept our sincere apology for the delay of your eagerly awaited 718 (GTS/GT4/Spyder), as well as the delay in providing details about the process that will finally get this car into your garage. Since our last communication, we have been working diligently with our Porsche AG colleagues to develop a solution which will give you the highest level of confidence in the quality and durability of your car. We appreciate the feedback from many future owners who helped guide this process.

Technical Solution
Your original production engine will be replaced with a brand-new, factory-built engine. The work will be completed by your dealership’s factory-trained technicians, who have significant experience removing and replacing engines, as this is common practice for many 718 maintenance operations. Engines will begin arriving in early June, and because production is limited, we expect that the final engines will reach us in late September. We will do our best to supply these engines according to each customer’s order date using a first-in, first-out principle.

Warranty Extension
At Porsche, we stand behind our products and repairs. To provide you and subsequent owners additional reassurance, your replacement engine will be covered by an 8-year warranty. This warranty extension by four additional years will provide the same level of coverage to your vehicle’s engine as the original manufacturer’s new car warranty. Your vehicle’s warranty information will be updated in our systems, meaning that it will be automatically honored at all authorized Porsche dealerships.

Engine Certificate
Along with extending the warranty of your vehicle’s engine, we will also provide you with a certificate of engine exchange.

Customer Appreciation
We understand the inconveniences associated with this delay. In recognition of your patience and loyalty, we would like to provide you with a sales voucher good for $4,000 towards the purchase of this or any other new Porsche vehicle. Please present this voucher number X to your dealership at time of purchase. It is good for one year from the date of this email and may be redeemed at any authorized Porsche dealership in the United States.

As an additional gesture of appreciation, we would like to extend a Porsche Driving Experience voucher to you. This voucher is good for $1,000 toward a driving experience at either of our two Porsche Experience Center locations in Atlanta, GA, and Carson, CA, or at our Porsche Track Experience in Birmingham, AL. To redeem the voucher, please present this number X when you book online at www.porschedriving.com or by contacting our PEC scheduling team at (888) 204 7474. It is also valid for one year. We hope you will be able to take advantage of this offer and enjoy a fun and excitement-filled day on us.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding and will keep you updated with further developments. Thank you for your continued loyalty.

Sincerely,

Glenn Garde

1. Southeast U.S. (SC residence, FL dealership)

2. CGTS 4.0

3. ~Jan 31/Feb 1

4. Original plan for dealer inventory showed April 16 and moved up to March 26 over course of build

5. No. It is sitting at port in Jacksonville since March ~23

6. Email received April 3 from Porsche indicating 3-6 month delay with no specified resolution. Dealership has provided no information other than screen prints showing status in the system as "Port handling - Quality action" as of March 26

7. I would expect to see engine replaced as a unit, vehicle kept in secure, sheltered environment, and the time-frame accelerated. Compensation should account for loss of use and value. I personally would just prefer to get priority on a new allocation and start over.

I will not accept delivery of a new premium sports car with a rebuilt engine.
