Question Stop Sale on 718 GTS, Spyder & GT4

I received this text from my sales advisor when checking in for an update on my CGTS order this morning... 'There is a "stop sale" on all GTS, Spyder and GT4. We don't know why. My manager told me today in the meeting..."

Anyone with insight on this current stop-sale order?

Hopefully not a big deal as my car is already onboard a ship in the Atlantic...

Ordered: Nov 16th, 2020 --->
Arrived at dealer: Mar 15th, 2021 --->
Stop Sale: Mar 16th, 2021 --->
Engine replaced: Sep 1st-8th, 2021 --->
Delivery: Sep 24th, 2021

It's finally delivery day after 312 long days! I had an incredible experience and was treated like royalty by Porsche of Owings Mills, MD. We started with the reveal and a tour of the car, and as we were sitting inside discussing features the most amazing thing happened. The GM came over and presented me with the certification stickers (tying the VIN to the engine) which had just arrived mere minutes earlier; allowing me to personally adhere them to the car and officially ending the engine swap process. This may not sound like a big deal to the average person, but for me it was like cutting the umbilical cord!

After the tour, I was given two gift bags loaded with free Porsche swag which included hats, t-shirt, mugs, keychains, lanyard, first aid kit, leather conditioning kit, a GT4 diecast model, "Racing and Recipes" cookbook, teddy bear, and a USB pen loaded with photos taken during the engine swap. Amazing!

I couldn't be more ecstatic with the delivery experience before I even had an opportunity to turn the key! Now, off to get PPF!.....

I’m inquiring with my dealer. I’ll let you know what the SM has to say.

I'm not sure, but my GT4 delivered to my dealer on Monday and Porsche is not letting me take delivery and complete the sale until a special inspection is completed. They SA reported that my car was randomly selected for a quality control inspection, so hopefully it's unrelated to what you are experiencing.

Edit 3/25 Update: Just spoke with my SA and it was informative. He confirmed the connector rods are the cause of the stop sale and that the solution is a full engine replacement, tied to the VIN, as if the car was built without the issue. Apparently there are VINs with a "confirmed" issue and a "might have" issue, but all are being replaced. My SA is checking on any extended warranty - that info was not provided.

Edit 4/4 Update: Porsche sent this on 4/3/21. Estimating 3-6 months to resolve the issue for folks who have not taken delivery.

Edit 4/19 Update (solution):
Here are the details of Porsche's solution for non-delivered GT4s (I am in the USA), quoted from the message which I won't copy here because it has my voucher info: This notice applies to your ordered vehicle:

Please accept our sincere apology for the delay of your eagerly awaited 718 Cayman GT4, as well as the delay in providing details about the process that will finally get this car into your garage. Since our last communication, we have been working diligently with our Porsche AG colleagues to develop a solution which will give you the highest level of confidence in the quality and durability of your car. We appreciate the feedback from many future owners who helped guide this process.

Technical Solution
Your original production engine will be replaced with a brand-new, factory-built engine. The work will be completed by your dealership’s factory-trained technicians, who have significant experience removing and replacing engines, as this is common practice for many 718 maintenance operations. Engines will begin arriving in early June, and because production is limited, we expect that the final engines will reach us in late September. We will do our best to supply these engines according to each customer’s order date using a first-in, first-out principle.

Warranty Extension
At Porsche, we stand behind our products and repairs. To provide you and subsequent owners additional reassurance, your replacement engine will be covered by an 8-year warranty. This warranty extension by four additional years will provide the same level of coverage to your vehicle’s engine as the original manufacturer’s new car warranty. Your vehicle’s warranty information will be updated in our systems, meaning that it will be automatically honored at all authorized Porsche dealerships.

Engine Certificate
Along with extending the warranty of your vehicle’s engine, we will also provide you with a certificate of engine exchange.

Customer Appreciation
We understand the inconveniences associated with this delay. In recognition of your patience and loyalty, we would like to provide you with a sales voucher good for $4,000 towards the purchase of this or any other new Porsche vehicle. Please present this voucher number to your dealership at time of purchase. It is good for one year from the date of this email and may be redeemed at any authorized Porsche dealership in the United States.

As an additional gesture of appreciation, we would like to extend a Porsche Driving Experience voucher to you. This voucher is good for $1,000 toward a driving experience at either of our two Porsche Experience Center locations in Atlanta, GA, and Carson, CA, or at our Porsche Track Experience in Birmingham, AL. To redeem the voucher, please present this number when you book online at www.porschedriving.com or by contacting our PEC scheduling team at (888) 204 7474. It is also valid for one year. We hope you will be able to take advantage of this offer and enjoy a fun and excitement-filled day on us.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding and will keep you updated with further developments. Thank you for your continued loyalty.

My SA confirmed there is a new stop sale, separate from the VIN range of cars with the suspension bolt issue, but he didn't know the underlying cause yet. My Spyder is still enroute but we were just about to start the trade/sale paperwork when the stop sale came through. He found out about it late last night and didn't get the VIN range until mid-day today. I was already waiting for the ship to arrive...what is one more thing to wait for

Here in the UK my 718 Spyder build complete date has move back several times, original build complete date was 29th of January, have now been quoted 30th of March. A person I know who’s Spyder was delivered here in February has received a letter from Porsche GB advising them to contact their preferred Porsche Centre for there fuel tank to be replaced. I think it’s unlikely that the fuel tank issue is limited to 1 car.

A good friend has a Boxster GTS 4.0 that was on the same boat as mine so built at nearly the same time as my Cayman GTS 4.0. Apparently there is a hold on mine but his is ready to go. His is PDK and mine is a manual. I’m wondering if it is specific to the 6 speed.

I haven't heard back from my SA yet but thinking it must be something other than these suspension bolt and fuel tank items. I believe both have been known for weeks or more. My car (CGTS 4.0) was just built the week of Feb 22, by which time they'd have addressed new or in-flight builds while in production(?) Yet, it's subject to this new stop-sale.

Saying there’s a stop sale but not saying why is ridiculous.

No. That discusses issues from weeks ago. This is a new issue that seems to have come up in the last 24 hours.

There are now multiple confirmed stop sales for different reason (or at least issued at different times for different VIN ranges). The most recent one which Porsche only published over the last few days, remains unknown to the best of my knowledge.
