I think you’re being cheeky here, but how do they gain entry by simply releasing the fin tabs?

Release fin tabs, slide fins off fin clampers and move fins forward and rest them on the soft-top (or fasten down onto fin-rest); reach over or around the window to fabric interior door loops and open door. I locked the key in the car once when it was new and did precisely this.

I guess if the thief was familiar with the RS he could figure all that out…while the alarm is blaring to make sure he does minimum damage.

Yes, hopefully thieves will familiarize themselves with the operation of the soft-top.

We could put a QR code on the window…lol. Thanks for the tip, something you don’t think about.

Haha. I like it. STOP! Scan the code if you must vandalize.

Once the thieves cut the top open, they will have the battery disconnected in 15 seconds or less to stop the alarm.

@0-Day

The front trunk (where the battery is located) opening sequence is electronically actuated; and unless I’m mistaken, it won’t open when the alarm is sounding. I do not believe there is a mechanical release either. Do you know for sure?

I don’t know about how the electronic frunk release works. But there is a manual cable frunk release that can be accessed pretty easily as long as you don’t care about damaging the car.

I don’t think a 911 or 718 Cab has “plate top”. They are multi layered and insulated fabric tops. The Spyder and Spyder RS are single layer canvas.

Street parking? You mean like daily?

Maybe look at a Boxster GTS for better Seattle manners, the RS ain’t that.

Oh, and why wouldn’t you be able to use the trunk much?
I was under the impression that the top on my prior 991.2 Carrera 4S had 3 magnesium plates under the canvas. It was pretty hard in most areas when you knocked on them.

I don't fill the frunk on a 911.2 C4S which would be more regularly used anyway, and I have wagon/SUV options if needed too so not really concerned there, but it did seem like something that owners commented on.

Ultimately the question (for me) is for someone who wants a "GT4 RS touring" but doesn't prefer convertible, is the Spyder RS a good alternative to getting a GT4 RS and removing the wing/adjusting front aero and perhaps using earplugs if needed. Right now I think the 718 GT4 could do with being a bit louder inside so even that might not be an issue...
You can gain entry to the trunk by releasing the fin clampers and pull the fins free, you don't have to take off the entire top or even release it at the windshield.

Biggest deterrent to theft in my "regular" Spyder.......manual transmission !! However, if a thief stole your convertible by cutting the top to gain access, they would need to get this repaired, either for themselves (unlikely) or to sell. The is not something simple to do on these cars, nor would it likely be worth the effort for them. Vandalism is a different matter. My daily driver is an Audi RS5, and I am actually thinking that even that is too nice a car for a daily. I am thinking to get something very unassuming and uninteresting and something where I don't care so much if it gets dinged or scratched.

Non-issue as it’s much easier to just break the window, grab w/e there is to grab and take off. Thieves like this are opportunistic so just don’t leave bags/stuff visible in the car. If someone capable wants something that you have, they’ll always be able to get it, so just make sure you have insurance and don’t stress about materialistic things - someone smashing a window or cutting the top of your soft-top sports-car should be the least of your worries. Especially on a SRS where the roof is a separate piece…

Assuming the Spyder roof drains are similar to the Boxster don't park anywhere near a tree. When on errands I have to remember to avoid the nice shaded areas from trees. IMO the risks of parking outside depends on the area. Suspect you are more likely to get "keyed" than someone cutting the top. If someone wants your Spyder they will come with a flatbed. Stealing your wheels is next. I drive my 2013 Boxster S to and from tracks. It is obviously much less of an attraction than your Spyder. When parking I try to find a street light to park under.
