Gt$ 7000 to 8000 RPM=GT3 8000 to 9000 RPM
Just watched Harry's Garage Review of the Spyder RS. He does a great job of capturing that insane 9000 rpm motor.
It struck me though watching the tach focused clip that the way that engine zings from 8000 to 9000 rpm is the same way that the 718 4.0 zings from 7000 to 8000 rpm.
the 718 4.0 has an intensity and sharpness to it from 7000 tp rpm to 8000 rpm that it doesn't have at other rev ranges
watching Harry's video of the 8000 to 9000 rpm GT3 engine it made me think that the 718 4.0 has a similar intensity and sharpness to it as it approaches redline, but the difference is that it happens from 7000 to 8000 rpm.
I have never driven one of the 9000 rpm engines though so I could be way off, just wondered if the same thought ever occurred to others that have experience with both.

Completely different engines. 9k engine revs much faster, hits harder in last 1k, and sounds higher pitch.
GTS engine is outstanding, but not similar to me.

9000rpm might not sound like a lot more than 8000, but it is.

Night and day, one is a great sport engine, but the GT3 engine feels like a real race car engine, sharper, higher pitch, revs so easy. Had 718 Spyder for 3 years and 991.2 GT3 and 992 GT3 at the same time to compare, and now the Spyder RS, the engine is in another league.

Agree with the above, and one of the main reasons why I keep toiling over whether I should get a GT4RS.

Having owned both a GT4 and now a 4RS. The experience is completely different. the 7-8k is great and it does go pretty crazy, but the last 8-9k is completely different. The gearing along with that engine is something you need to experience.

seems pretty clear there is a significant difference that I need to experience for myself
I wondered about it since if you watch Harry's video the engine really zings from 8000 to 9000 rpm but it does not have that zing from 7000 to 8000 rpm whereas the 718 4.0 does
I am not mechanically inclined and so I wondered if it's really that last 1000 rpm of any of the 4.0's that have that zing
I do not remember that level of fierceness in the 6600 to 7600 range on my 2016 Cayman S
but sounds like the 8000 to 9000 rpm zing is just at another level from the 718 4.0 7000 to 8000 rpm zing
so much for an attempt to quel my want for that 9000 rpm engine

I haven't driven a GT4, but I had a GTS 4.0 - same engine, but limited to 7800rpm, and also drove one this weekend back-to-back with my Spyder RS, and it's completely different. None of the videos, even with high-end headphones gives a real understanding of the feel/sound of the engine. It's way different compared to the non-RS 718 4-liter engine, even lower in the rpm range. But you would expect a different experience when comparing the prices as well.

As others have said, the 9k revver (I had 991.2 3rs) sounds like the engine was only supposed to go to 8k but you go over anyways and it somehow has even more power but also sounds like it’s going to explode, it’s definitely wild
my gt4 just sounds great and much less high strung. I still like the car more even though engine is much less racecar. No one will tell you on rennlist but The 4.0 liter 9k shtts on the mezger tbh. No idea why people even continue to talk about the mezger when we have the 9k Motorsport beast. I get complaining about the size and pdk and everything else of the newer stuff….but the 9k engine is the best motor of anything put in a Porsche 911 and I don’t think it’s even close

The 4.0 GT4/GTs/Spyder motor is amazing in its own right, but as I sadly found out, is not as magical as the GT3 motor - and it’s more than just having an extra 1000 revs.
