Nope 718 has the same issue just not as common as the 981. Pretty much went away after people stopped slamming their 981 GT4's. Still a hard hit bottoming out the suspension or bad pothole is still a concern.

The 718 has basically the same front tub as a 981&991..
The 992 has a totally different tub and strut towers.
That’s one of the first things I looked at when I decided to get a 992
the 992 towers are much more robust and reinforced, but still cast aluminum
I always thought an easy remedy was to have a stamped steel insert underneath the Strat tower installed from the bottom.
I don’t know why somebody hasn’t made one wouldn’t be hard 1/16 stamp steel would do it.

A friend hit a major pothole in my GT3T and I immediately thought the strut tower was toast. Fortunately it wasn’t.

FWIW the tower in the 4RS appears to have a lot more beef than I remember in the 981GT4.

The tower is bonded-in cast alu part… so it can be removed and new one bonded back in. Porsche have a specific known repair process so not a ‘major’ issue aside from damage to any other components that might also need to be replaced as a result of the impact.

This is not a common problem. The problem only happens if you are tracking every weekend and slamming curbs. /Endthread.

Is that stock suspension?

Also, I don't see any strut tower "failure", I see an anecdotal 10 ft view of what may be damage caused by something else that impacted that area, not necessarily stress related fracture.

Huh... so the take away? the $RS has more horsepower and faster in a straight line? And if you buy some stickier tires a GT4 will be faster in the corners.... Thanks @TRZ06 you just saved me $100,000!

HAHA, yeah the rest of the video was more of a DUH, but I found the strut tower thing interesting as it's mostly unheard of on the 982 chassis.

HoHos at that track are worth several seconds over MPSC2s or RM2s.
