Seat Selection for Spyder RS

Seat Selection for Spyder RS
Hello Gents. I just got an allocation for a Spyder RS and am finishing up my build spec. Although I suspect this topic has been discussed at length over the years, I’m hoping you guys will share your advice about seat selection. I have a 2020 718 Spyder with 18-Ways which I really like a lot. I’m thinking about ordering LWB’s on the Spyder RS but have never tried them. They certainly look awesome in this car, but I’ve heard a few negative comments about comfort level. With all the experience and expertise on this forum I’m anxious to hear opinions for and against. Thanks in advance for your kind help!

How do you plan to use the car? Do the 18-ways give you enough lateral support? If using mostly for weekend curvy road driving, the buckets are worth putting up with. I assume tracking is not in your future.

If I were shopping used Spyder RS's - I'd pass on any that didn't have LWBS's. Any other seat to me seems wrong for that car.
Not sure if that helps you or not... but it's perhaps a data point.
And I have them in my Spyder and I find them perfectly comfortable. I drove cross country when I picked the car up and felt they were very comfortable...

Go LWBS every time. If you find them uncomfortable stock then buy a set of seat recliners (takes 10 mins with hand tools to install).
My wife was very annoyed with the LWBS at first and now loves them, and so do I. They are honestly the comfiest seat, its like youre being cradled.

🪣🪣 7 days a week. My personal opinion is anyone that puts 18 ways in an RS needs the non RS. Something like 10% of all spyders have buckets and pccb. I think its a big mistake on the most hardcore version because that means you will hate the roof. Im 200lb 6ft, 44 years old. Buckets are fine and a must in one of the most purist cars ever made

You need to take a ride/drive in a modern porsche with LWB for 2 hrs or more.
Everyone’s opinions are not the same as what you feel with your anatomy.

I hate to be that guy, but you need to ignore all of us, find a way to sit in both, ideally drive in both, and decide what you want to own. LWBS look cooler and may be more appealing if you sell the car. None of that matters compared to how they make you feel when driving / living with the car. Body type and intended use matter a lot.
I had the chance to drive a few cars with LWBS, including a friends Spyder. It was a non-starter for me so I went with the 4 way seats. Exact same fit as the 18 way but lighter. If I had bought LWBS based on looks, I wouldn't enjoy driving my car nearly as much. Especially when rolling out of the car with my phone and a coffee in hand 😄 I have friends that feel the exact opposite.
I think this is one where you really need seat time to decide for yourself.
Jeff
PS - congratulations on the RS...what an incredible machine!!

Like @lepetitgarage said, get the recliner brackets. It's like 100$ and changes the comfort level of the LWBS completely. The problem that some people have with the LWBS is that it sits too upright and can put pressure on the spine. With the recliner brackets it reclines the back a bit and gives you more support under the knees. If you are a shorter person this may not be needed but for me as i'm 6'3" this was a welcome change and made sitting in these seats super comfortable.

If you are a bit taller(over 185cm) i will try first LWBs, im 188 and thought that LWBs are as comfy as my Pole Position ABE, but for a tall guy having the bottom part of LWBs V shaped kinda keeps you "in the air". If i put a pillow on the LWBS im very comfy.
If you cant find a Porsche with LWBS and try them for 20 min maybe try go to a race car shop and try Recaro Podium(probably LWBs dimensions)

I am a buckets + bracket guy, especially if you are going to track, so your head isn't pitched forward.
@seefouress Did you JUST get this allocation? Is it indicative of a recent drop of new allocations?

Gents. Thanks so very much for all of your great responses. Exactly what I expected from this group of pros!! I think trying to sit in an LWB is a great idea before locking in. I'll work on that. The recliner brackets are also really helpful info. As for the allocation, I was frankly shocked to get it. A good friend got one from a big Fla dealer a month ago. On my request, he reached out to the same dealer last week on the off chance they would offer another one to me - and they did. So I'm looking at a September-ish delivery. As to whether this indicates a new release of allocations, I truly don't know. Thanks again guys.
