Wow that's bringing back memories of me running a cleaning flush oil thru my 996 before adding regular oil during oil changes. Didn't matter, she blew up anyway.

Are you going to get oil reports? I'd be interested in seeing those both ways: regular 4 liter change vs your 12 quart flush. Those might show the 12 quart is worth the effort.

The glass jar test previously posted together with the idea that half the oil comes out constitute sufficient cause for me. Not going to spend my on with lab reports.

I wonder what limitation in the previous oils capabilities led to the development of this. If this oil is truly not compatible with other platforms then there is likely something in the metallurgy or clearances that isn't well protected with the previous oils leading to accelerated wear...
I think they are downgrading the performance of the non-GT C40 to make it less environmentally harmful (and better for cats and OPF’s), but that stuff is too insufficient for 9k engines.

New stuff for non-9k engines is ESP X4 C40

Still doesn't address why this new oil would NOT be recommended for the other engines (better = better) unless there is something in the additives package that is targeting something specific; perhaps the reason is to steer consumers away from oils that might be more harmful to the environment. It would be helpful to know what the facts are around this oil and why it was developed.

If they are trying to promote an oil with less environmental impact (non-GT C40), it’s counterproductive if they let you circumvent that by using the less environmental GT oil in all the cars. Just a guess - I don’t have any hard info.

I started getting Blackstone oil reports every change 5 P-cars back with the 996 and I can tell you from that experience the color of the oil is not automatically a gauge for the amount of bad contaminants in one's oil. I'm not saying your 12 quart flush is a waste of time/money but I am curious to see how much benefit it has to the condition of the oil long term versus a standard oil change. I will continue getting oil reports with the 4RS as I'm sure others will, so we'll see as time goes on. If the 12 quart flush makes a dramatic difference in oil condition I'll certainly join that club.

Makes sense.

Can you share your observations of the engine oil you’ve had analyzed thus far during your 4RS ownership?

I will in the future. I've only had the 4RS 3 months and put on 600 miles. The selling dealer changed the oil before they put the car up for sale. When I do the first change I'll send a sample to Blackstone. With the new oil being discussed in this thread I'll probably change it sooner rather than later. I've never been a big Mobil 1 fan always ran Motul in my cars, but given that this new Mobil 1 oil is specific to the newer 9K motors I don't think it would be wise to run anything else.

So if we order the 0W-40 C40 right now at Autozone is it still the old one that's fine for our 4RS engines?

No- Porsche document says any oil purchase before 02/01/24 is okay but purchases after 02/01/24 must conform to the new specification.

Just spoke to dealer today (March 1 is supposed to be the roll-out date) and confirmed a new notice from Porsche but he said mid to late March for availability (and no price yet either). ExxonMobil part number is 127920...

No, and he didn't think there would be one.

Interesting. To my knowledge there’s always a Porsche part number for either individual bottle or drum.

Wonder if the dealers will get drums of the new GT specific oil. They can probably ream us a little more selling individual quarts.
