That is correct. I had posted the above 2 hours prior to receiving the email update from Mobil. I asked them again for UPC and product style numbers and they stated they couldn't be shared until March 1st..... So I'm guessing it's getting released March 1st but that doesn't mean it's going to be available to purchase March 1st.

Gotcha — sorry I missed those timestamps.

Wondering if we’ll have a Porsche part number after March 1 also. Buying this stuff when we need it is going to be lots of fun… Porsche monopoly pricing and matrix pricing over List. The price of a quart should be around $7 at wholesale/supplier pricing but lord knows the Porsche dealers will try to charge around $20 per quart. That’s big bucks to waste per oil change especially if a person plans on using 12 quarts during an oil change.

I wonder if we could do a group buy directly with a Porsche dealer - maybe we buy 4 quarts x 99 (that’s 33 cases of 12) I know I plan on using 12 quarts at every oil change (1 drain and then two flushes equalling 3 drains and 3 fills); assuming everyone else wants to do the same, that’s 33 Rennlist members. I have a warehouse for my cars with lots of extra storage space and would be happy to ship out (though I imagine this could become expensive given the weight); but the dealers down here in South Florida are heinous and their prices are noncompetitive. Interested in thoughts on this.

Autozone had the old stuff. $11.49/quart I believe. But they often had it on sale, knocking it to $6/quart. I'm guessing they will get it eventually. Or that's what I'm counting on.

Autozone had Mobil1 C40 0W-40?

I know when it first came out in 2020-2021, it was available exclusively at the Porsche dealer forever.

Would there be any benefit running this oil in the GT4?

It’s not approved for a non-GT engine so there’s a hard no on that.

To his defense… GT-4
They only specify the RS models for the 718…. non-RS model 718’s stick with the general C40 Oil.

Gotcha but that’s not a defense — the GT engine is the 9,000-RPM engine. Note I didn’t say it’s for “GT cars” — I said it’s not approved for a non-GT engine, which means it’s for the GT engine only, which means if it ain’t a 9Ker, then no C40 GT oil.

Missed the "Mobil 1 C40 GT 0W-40 is not suitable for Porsche vehicles requiring an A40, C20, C30 or C40 approved Mobil 1 engine oils." at the bottom of the spec sheet.

I wonder what limitation in the previous oils capabilities led to the development of this. If this oil is truly not compatible with other platforms then there is likely something in the metallurgy or clearances that isn't well protected with the previous oils leading to accelerated wear...

Was wondering the same. What prompted the change, and why can’t it be used on non-9k engines? It’s all very mythical
