I'm excited they're making advan AD09's for the 245 / 295 20in GT4 sizing now. I'll be switching to those this year as I'm hoping they can keep them in stock better than SC3s. Same compound as A052s, but slightly more focused for street driving than a052s.

I have just about gone thru my first set of AD09's and while I think the SC3's are just a tad better (just a bit more ultimate grip and better grip when cold), the AD09s are a great solution to the "WTF is going on at Goodyear" SC3's

GY and TR both say Feb. for the rears on the SC3's, but now the fronts are back ordered with no in stock dates.

How many track days are you getting out of SCR3’s? Do rears wear faster than fronts?

Just FYI,

I did a pre-order for the SC3 stock rear sizes from TR for the estimated 2/12 in stock date last week and just received a notification that (as is on par for GY these days) they have been further delayed with no new back-order release date.

I would just put the SC3's out of your mind for anyone who wants stock sizes, as they are vaporware.

I've got Sport Cup 2s 19" in 265/305's that I've only run one day on last year, and the 20" Dunlops that came on the car I still need to finish wearing out, and a set of brand new RE71RS's to try out in the smaller size. Unfortunately when the engine let go it was mid season so I have all those left to try out. I'm super curious to see out the RE71's feel as the previous version was my favourite tyre on my 981S.

If you can dial the suspension to get even wear...you can get 3 really good track days and another 1 that will be a bit slower....maybe I can squeeze a 5th day but will be leaving the track on cords.
Do keep in mind our track is 1.4 miles long and surface is very harsh.

Will shipping SCR3’s, or other R compound tires in sub freezing weather damage them?

Cup2's still the GOAT in my opinion, especially for stock wheels. Best balance of grip, street ability, heat resistance, and they are light. On 19's you will get a touch more grip and longevity from an RT660, but they aren't particularly nice to drive on the street as they are stiff and quite heavy. Cheaper though. Although in my experience I'm lucky to get two events out of a set of tires before they are dead regardless. For track performance in general the 265 up front is nice, but the car drives so much sweeter on the road with a 245.

I'm avoiding ordering tires right now because of the cold. The other thing I have read it can take several days for tires to warm up properly once exposed to freezing temperatures. And if a tire shop goes to mount the tires they risk cracking as they're stretched around the wheel. Tire shops around here in Wisconsin don't seem to be super warm, leaving their bay doors open quite a bit. So I'm also not a fan of ordering from tire rack sending them to a shop and expecting them to warm properly before installing. I'm sure some high-end race shops can handle it. Been not worth the risk for me right now.

I would love a source on this claim too.

It would greatly surprise me if they were the same compound. I wore all of the tread off of a set of A052s in less than 3000 miles, and the A052 compound gets extremely greasy when they are hot. The A052 compound performs incredibly when cold or just warm. The A052 compound is the ultimate 1-lap-wonder that is only good for qualifying, time trials, or autoX IMO.

I went back and re-read the Yoko press releases from late 2021 launching the AD09's and there was no reference at all to the compound being the same as A052's.
Same with reading web articles from late 2021 and early 2022 talking about AD09's, some comparing to A052.
No sources that I could find saying they utilize the same compounds. Most compared the differences vs the AD08's.
Similar with looking at Yoko's current website and tire comparisons.
Not saying they aren't the same, but doesn't seem to be any evidence or sources confirming.

I do not think they are the same compound.

The biggest difference is that the AD09's use a stiffer sidewall (via and high turn-up 3rd steel belt) and feel more confident in the high speed corners over the A052's. The A052's as stated above, are great when cold, while the AD09's need a little heat in them.

The A052's also have more ultimate grip (until they get hot) , while the AD09's are an "endurance" 200 TW tire. The times though are pretty close between the two when you watch the A/B testing.
