So that white stuff in your pic is the leak tracing powder?

I'll bet the tech is thrilled with that. Thank you sir, may I have another?

@RDCR yes, I think so. I wondered what that was when I first saw the pictures... but the write-up seems to indicate that. I had never heard of leak tracing powder, but apparently it's a real thing.

Looks to me like that corner is getting over torqued at assembly.

A friends 992 GT3 with the same failed gasket. It is now a known defect in manufacturing. Cracked in the same place and in the same way.

Same type issue in my ‘23’GT3. Hopefully my ‘24’ GT4RS doesn’t have this issue.

My 4RS was OK at 1400 miles for the first oil change. It appears to be a manufacture's defect during assembly.

From the picture of the damaged gaskets it looks like something that would show up relatively quick as the gasket probably was failing from day one.
Looks like much more of a manufacturing defect than an installation defect.
Once the pan is put on, there are no lateral stresses on the gasket that could tear it .

Appears to be classic CTE mismatch. Right at the corner of the gasket where shearing forces are highest during expansion and contraction. The bolt opening in the gasket where it is torn also look substantially shallower (much less material) than the other mounting hole locations, effectively the weakest link in the chain. Also surrounded by the least amount of oil pain material (thermal mass) at the extent of the pan.

I would call this a design defect, not a manufacturing defect.

That's me! Yep, for my case they were able to do it without having to drop the engine. This leak didn't manifest until probably 20+ track days and 8000 miles or so. I've had the diffuser off many times and the engine bay was spotless.

Fortunately, I monitor my oil like a hawk, so I didn't lose that much. Just enough to make a mess and a tiny puddle on my garage floor.

Do you know if the repair is with a new part number and newly designed piece? Or simply a replacement of the same gasket?

Hmmm, not that I know of. I'll take a look at the part orders on the invoice. I paid nothing for it to be replaced.

Had the same issue on my ‘23’ 992.1 GT3T at about 1000 miles.
