Default GT4RS - oil leak - oil sump gasket

Just wanted to share a data point, not seen anyone mention this issue yet.

My GT4 RS with 3,800 miles started to leave oil stains on my garage floor. Off to the dealer it went and they determined that the "oil sump gasket" leaking.
Apparently quite an involved process to get to it, engine out job. Makes you miss the 911 layout, doesn't it!

Will see if the job card provides any more details when I get the car back.

Sorry to hear. Just for clarity, the sump is the long metal oval-shaped piece in this photo with the rear facing drain plug. This is the part on the engine itself (we drain from here as well as from the external oil tank on an oil change). Pic from my 992 GT3 - yours will be rotated 180 degrees. First I've heard of this particular problem

MY23. Believe it was built May-June.

One more data point... my 2023 GT4RS has a small oil leak. Engine has to come out to fix it. I will try to get pictures to post here.

Was the engine out necessary for changing the gasket? This would make it a real expensive leak.

Good time to call Jamie at Dundon. Perfect time to upgrade.

@planolemans
Yes, engine out was necessary. Initially I was hoping that they just had to tighten a bolt or the oil filter. Nope.
The car has about 4000 miles on it, with 6 HPDE track days at VIR.
The leak is really small, it would be easy to miss.
But looking at that green gasket, it seems like this repair is essential. And very essential to get it done under warranty because this would be enormously expensive otherwise.

Sigh. What this tells me is that the GT3 engine was force-wedged into the 718. Yes, it fits, after they moved the sump in the this gen of the engine. But it was not designed to fit the 718 -- at least not with proper design considerations given to service.

I know parts bin specials are a Porsche specialty. But when the bin part is the engine...

I think you may be confused. They relocated the external oil tank from the 991.2 to work with both the 992 GT3 and 4RS. The sump is the bottom of the engine and I’m not aware of any changes there from 992 GT3.

I think this was just an unlucky and rare occurrence (hopefully).

So, you are sure that to replace this gasket in a GT3 or 3RS you also need engine out?

Or, to replace the same gasket in a 9A2EVO in a GT4 also needs engine out?

If yes, I'll let slide your rude comment.
