How much does size matter? 991.2 GT3 or stick with 718?

It comes down to what your use case is for the car. While I never owned a GLH, I’ve had multiple GTIs including a Callaway (which was as quick and better handling than my friend’s GLHS), and love the idea of a hot hatch. I now have a GR Corolla, which gets driven daily while my GT4 sits in the garage awaiting the next track day. The GRC is simply more fun and engaging to drive where I live, while the GT4 needs room to run before it really feels good. The GRC is quick (deceptively so..) with very responsive handling, solid brakes, and good utility. I don’t worry about where I park it, I don’t obsess over a bit of road rash, etc. Unless you have a proper place to exercise it, a car like a GT3 just becomes a frustrating experience, IMO.

I'm really enjoying this thread. I'm considering selling my 911T for a Sypder. I just love the 718 platform so much.

Over the years, I have become much more focused on the enjoyment I will get for how I actually drive and use a car, as opposed to some theoretical ideal based on just the car's capabilities.

Went from 991.2 gt3rs to 718 GT4 manual.

its more fun in most conditions imo and the fact you said you don’t care about c&c (I don’t either) tells me a 718 gt4 would suit you well

gt3rs looks way cooler and is way more capable, gt4 is just way more fun and tossable and agile on and more importantly for you OFF track

ill be at the racetrack with mine this Friday

I have a 991.2 GT3 manual and a 987.2 Boxster S right now. I actually cancelled a Cayman GTS 4.0 order to get the GT3 instead since the Cayman I felt was just going to duplicate the experience I already have in my 987. I think these two cover all the bases, tiny analog car and bigger more serious fast car. (Also E46 M3 track car)

However, if one just has to scratch an itch to own a GT3, then just get a GT3, of course.

This qualifies as a nice problem to have.
Absolutely...I was just responding with my only experience in the differences...which was the Atlanta experience center. Some of that experience definitely applies to the street and I thought it would be a neat way for him to compare them. That's all.

I actually own a 2023 Type R, 981 GT4 and a 23 4RS. I tell those that ask me that the new Type R is about 80% of what the GT4 offers at 40% of the cost. You only start feeling a big difference above 80mph. Other obvious big difference is the NA engine sound vs turbo engine that doesn't make much sound. Most will argue that it's FWD but they haven't driven the new one where the FWD is so good you only really start feeling the limitations of it at the limit which it has a very high limit(lap times are only a few seconds off a GT4). The type R is an amazing car for 45k.

And this is why the ADM on the Type R is on part with the GT4 RS.

I have been pondering with this very question, as I really would like to acquire a GT3. Having owned a 718 and 981 GT4 I'm ready to try a 911. However on balance your looking at $70k more to get into the GT3, is it going to bring that much more joy than the 718 with a good exhaust? I don't know as I have honestly never driven a GT3. Values of 718's and 991.2's appear pretty stable so from a price/opportunity perspective there isn't much happening here. Its also winter so inventory is not going to be moving as fast either. I'd be curious to hear from those who can compare the two.

I think if you are asking the question, you need to answer it for yourself.

That itch needs to be scratched. YOLO.

I hear the Integra Type S is at least just as good, with "better" looks inside and outside.

It's also more expensive (about 7-8k MSRP).

Not sure about inside, but few things are as an eyesore as the Type R on the outside.

I own an M2 CS and that's my dedicated track car. I retired my factory built M2 CSR.

The M2 CS is a great all around car. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, it WON EVO CAR OF THE YEAR in 2020.

With that said it's turbo, it's a beast but it's no Cayman and no 911. I'll keep it in my fleet to fling it sideways going around every corner at VIR as fast as I can (zero downforce) yet very balanced in a drift.

The more I read these comments the more I realize I have the perfect car.......my Cayman.
