After some extensive research on this topic (reading forums and speaking to three dealerships in Southern California), it seems the consensus is to stick with the C40 approved oils. Even if you remove the GPF on the OAPs.
Why does the bulletin state "All Porsche vehicles, up to and including MY 2020, for which Porsche C40 engine oils are allocated."?Is it also applicable to modell year 2021 and younger?
FYI, so I spoke to a "tech" at Motul and got more clarification about the new label. Apparently the company that makes the additive to be C40 compliant failed to get re-certified and until then Motul will not be adding it to their oil. It is not just Motul. Any oil company that is getting the additive from the same company will have the same issue. And Motul had no idea when they will get re-certified. Needless to say, I'm glad I called.
So, according to the latest bulletin we are down to Mobile 1 ESP x3 0W-40...
That has always been the requirement for the 992 GT3 (for 3 years) with the same engine. I wonder if the inclusion of 5W40 was made temporarily for the 4RS, since the factory that makes the only approved oil (ESP X3) had a fire a while back and there was no C40 alternative in 0W40. Now that it's easier to find the right stuff, maybe they clamped down on its requirement again.
Possibly not, but your engine warranty would disintegrate
I recently saw an estimate for an engine replacement at $96k
Yeah, but that still doesn't explain why I can't use an oil that would be okay for, say, a Lamborghini Huracan, in my 718 Spyder. I am looking for the scientific reason.

I wish I had the answer to this and to several other questions on the oiling issue…
So I ordered "MOTUL 8100 X-CLEAN GEN2 5W-40 5 LITER BOTTLE 100% synthetic 109762" for the GT4 but the label doesn't look right as it doesn't say "Porsche C40".
I think I know the answer to this but is this okay to use? If not, is this an older version of the same oil?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

wrong oil. 8100 xcess gen 2 is c40 approved, not the xclean.

There likely isn't one, really. I say completely out of my ***. I thought someone said something about speculating needing specific oil formulations so as not to foul the gasoline particulate filter, though we don't need to sweat that in the U.S. I think most people are just worried about using something Porsche doesn't "approve" and having an engine explode and then Porsche forensic experts finding out (somehow) that the oil was not C40 approved and denying your warranty claim. It's hard to imagine that the motor would be that sensitive to additive packages. I'd have to really assume that any quality motor oil of the correct weight would probably be fine. But I'm far from an expert on this stuff. I'm guessing most of the hand wringing about this is not from a place of any knowledge just assuming "well if Porsche says only use that then there must be a reason!"
Why all the discussion on 5W-40...?
Its not like Mobile 0W-40, C40 isnt readily available on the shelves, so why bother with alternatives that may-or may not be safe/approved?
