I have no idea what possessed Porsche to put Alcantara on the dash of a car that will almost never be driven with the top up. Seems more like something for a good museum piece as opposed to car that is actually meant to be driven.

I agree with you . . . but how many of these do you think are going to be actually driven???

Most of them will end up equating to nothing more than museum pieces . . . showing up in the used car market in a year or two with 300 miles on them

This materials usage is very "Porsche Motorsports". I first saw it used on the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0. Very flashy and really a statement. Fire-resistent too!

You have to have the right tools and proper technique... This is like saying the blower used to dry the car simply blows water to a different spot on the car, yep sure does if you don't do it right!

This can be an incredibly effective method for cleaning, minimizes the chance of scratching surfaces too.

Very different situation. The areas that you illustrate in this pic are much less prone to gathering significant amounts of dust and debris in an open top car. And in the car you have shown here, the entire dash and upper door panels are leather and plasti-leather. And the GT3 RS is also not an open top car. The entire upper dash in the Weissach package for the SRS should have been leather. Not sure if the A-pillars are Alcantara, but they shouldn't be either in an open top car.

While I do not get the 'blowing dust' with a blower part - you cannot blow dust away, only stir it up - I would think Alcantera would completely hide any dust that might settle . . . I think many posting in this thread would be horrified if they saw my interior. Dust and fingerprint blasphemy everywhere. I even drive with my windows down routinely

Something like this would be better. This is the non-Weissach Package and drops the price considerably.

I assume you can just vacuum and brush the dash to get rid of most of the dust, and then Sonax cleaner as needed? Not the biggest alcantara fan but I hate it more on touch surfaces like the wheel/console/door handles where it tends to pick up oil/sweat and get nasty. Dash seems like it should stay pretty clean for a while.

Believe we’re overthinking this one.

16000 miles on my 2021 with RaceTex armrest and I’ve never touched it.

Still looks new!

Agreed, but onething is also true, hands off, no unnecessary touching and cleaning only when needed.

Lastly, people who eat in their car should stay clear of Alcantara...

Leather may be more durable over decades, but it gets scratches, goes shiny and creases easily vs alcantara. "Worn" alcantara usually just needs a clean to bring the pile back.
