I'll say the ONLY thing I find annoying about it all - I get a LOT of people that seem to like to "hang back" in traffic, usually right in my blind spot, and pace me. Like they sit right at the rear bumper or rear tire. I speed up, they speed up. I slow down, they slow down. Usually they are gawking at the car. And it's fine and all - but inevitably they get in my way of trying to change lanes! I wind up having to pull a more a**hole move to get ahead of them so I can get my change or turn completed.... usually they immediate change lanes to the other lane, and continue hanging back, just on the other side...

Contributing factor. If felt like every trip in Irvine/Newport/Laguna or North OC would have someone follow a bit too much. I drove a 991.2 alongside the Spyder and never got a look. Heck, my E46 M3 gets waves and thumbs up on occasion but the Spyder was on a different level. Something she wasn't used to. I'll jump back into a Spyder in a few years when I can afford/justify a toy like that.

All is not lost, GTS 4.0 is just over the horizon!

lame.

this is worse IMO than the guys that buy a "winged"GT car then proceed to take the wing off "because it draws too much attention" ... or they retrofit rear seats and belts into the back of their GT3...

get a minivan!

If your end game is a Spyder, I just don't see the logic in making the massive temporary commitment on a GTS 4.0. But hey...

In both my 981 Spyder and my 718 Spyder this has been the case. 718 id a loud blue but the 981 had the loud classic interior. Either way, the 718 still gets more complements. Everything from old ladies at stoplights to Mustang guys in parking lots. I even had an older base Boxter try to race me off the line. Really dude? I had a modified FD RX-7 and M3 playing in traffic try to get me to play with them. Old guys in gas stations want to tell me about the Porsche they had in the seventies etc. My wife is only slightly embarrassed to ride in in but my five-year-old loves it especially when I drop her off/pick her up at school--always with the roof down of course.

Not the car you want to take to stalk someone or rob a bank for sure, especially with the full Kline exhaust.

Hilarious that the GT4 is the more sleeper of the 2.

Spyders are just exotic looking enough, and just rare enough, to stand out even in hard core sports car events. Especially in PG. 😎

Spyder is definitely a beautiful car that does draw attention. Over the past two years I've had one person ask if it was a Ferrari, heard one older gentleman saying it was a '918 Spyder', had two tourists randomly pose in front of it in Hollywood, bunch of nods and thumbs up driving around. The 918 comment I liked in the sense that people can think it looks exotic and special enough to be a $1M supercar. The Spyder is indeed a special car, it somehow perfectly bonds the present technology with analogue old school feel in one package. The size is spectacular, it looks timelessly beautiful, steering and shifter feel are wonderful, pedals positioned perfectly, enough power to make the ride entertaining, it is street friendly with a compliant ride overall, great handling, most importantly a 6 speed transmission and naturally aspirated engine. What more can we petrol heads ask for??? It certainly is not perfect, it is not offering the 'best' of any component that is leaving factory floors. But yet it's one of the most fun cars any of the manufacturers out there are offering at the moment for this price. 20 years ago we all were wishing for a car this good at this price point.

You should have walked over and start talking to her.

That’s the real test how much he is into the 25th.

Out with the Lizard Green LWBs in with cognac sofas.
That's why I keep my finances separate and have many cars. My wife doesn't like standing out or cars and has only been in my GT4 twice for about 15-20 minutes total if that. We use other cars going places together.

IMO part of a relationship is understanding not everything has to be done jointly by both and realizing that you shouldn't take joy from your partner just because you don't understand their hobby. That's good you didn't think of it as a big deal, because to me that would come with some serious questions of do you even understand or pay attention to what's important to me?

I avoided this thread for a few days because I was sure it would be a train wreck. I finally gave in and was not disappointed.

Funny, I think it depends also on where you live. I live in the DMV and while I do have people gawk on the highway or road, it’s not crazy level attention. Also having a white car helps..I rarely have had someone approach me at a gas station or in a parking lot..part of it might be maintaining that “urban scowl” which keeps the would-be-curious away. Lol. I honestly could care less about talking about my car with a complete stranger in the middle of nowhere.

It’s just not as pretty - if they made a GT4 touring, I might be interested. No desire for that wing though….
