Before getting my Spyder, I read a few posts about the attention that you get. I really didn’t understand. Till now.
EVERYBODY wants to talk about this car.
If I am near the car for even moments as I get out, people will walk up to me and start talking. They take pictures. They want to know how it drives. What it’s like to own. How did I get one. Even many people think it’s a 918 (those not so familiar with Porsche). One guy at my company parking lot saw me waking to the car and drove out of his way to stop and talk to me. He admitted that he checks out the car almost every day and wanted to talk to the owner.
But today, the craziest thing was driving down a highway and a cop pull up next to me as we were driving. I thought he was going to pull me over since he was in my blind spot and next to me for a few minuets. It turns out the cop was simply admiring my Spyder as we both drove down the highway, and he eventually smiled at me and sped away….
My wife made me get rid of the spyder for that reason. We were driving on PCH and an older gentleman in an SL started to tail us. When we pulled into Fashion Island for dinner, he parked right next to me and walked up as I was still 'stuck' in my LWBs. I was happy to talk to him, but my wife was a little bit taken aback.
They get a lot of attention, yes.
wife made your get rid of the spyder because it got too much attention?

Oh Boy.
LOL I didn't think it was too big of a deal. I got the Spyder when I was single. She's a very private person and didn't like the attention.
I guess it was a learning experience - lesson learned. She's involved in the speccing of my new CGTS 4.0. It's a great way to get her involved in this hobby/passion.
Out with the Lizard Green LWBs in with cognac sofas.
It's actually crazy how much more attention the Spyder gets compared to the GT4. I largely think its everything passed the windshield. People see the GT4 and go "nice Porsche" and then see the wing and just assume it's another race car. But the Spyder? Now that looks exotic. Especially with the top up. No other convertible looks like it. It also just catches your eye quicker for some reason. Was up in Napa last year and saw a Spyder and GT4. I definitely saw the Spyder first.

Yes, it is a combination of the top down as well as the flying buttresses with the top up. It is extremely unique and special. Plus, the car is extremely rare. I have never seen one in the wild.
There are more GT4s out there, and just in general, it has more of the typical "sports car look". Especially to folks not familiar with the Porsche brand.
I was on a mountain drive with a buddy in his Basalt Black 25th anniversary edition, and we had stopped for gas. This younger guy with a very attractive girlfriend/wife comes flying into the gas station in the stall next to us, jumps out of his truck, and starts peppering us with questions about the cars. He never even looked back to see what the wife was doing, which I found humorous. These cars do attract attention and make people react in strange manners...
I had a delivery guy in some big open doored delivery van trailing me through Dallas traffic. He finally caught me at a light and leaned out and went on and on about how awesome my car looked. He was visibly excited. lol I opened the valves to leave the light (soul comp oaps) and he went ape ****. lol It was hilarious and totally fun.
Yeah it's definitely something I am not used to - I've owned some (IMO) cool cars in the past but never anything that attracts attention like the Spyder does. I smile and engage as best as my introverted self can, I don't want to come off like a "d-bag Porsche owner" . I'll say the ONLY thing I find annoying about it all - I get a LOT of people that seem to like to "hang back" in traffic, usually right in my blind spot, and pace me. Like they sit right at the rear bumper or rear tire. I speed up, they speed up. I slow down, they slow down. Usually they are gawking at the car. And it's fine and all - but inevitably they get in my way of trying to change lanes! I wind up having to pull a more a**hole move to get ahead of them so I can get my change or turn completed.... usually they immediate change lanes to the other lane, and continue hanging back, just on the other side...
