I brought my GTS in for the one year service and they told me the car needs to stay overnight for the oil level sensor to properly report the amount of oil. He said they have the same issue with other 4.0L like GT3. I said, but my 4.0 isn't the same engine. Sounds weird. Anyone else heard this?

Also I got the dreaded engine fault-driving permitted notification. Car seems fine, but they are checking it out.

What was your CEL for? Mine was due to my AC malfunctioning but its kept coming back and so at this point has been in the service center for a week and a half.

I have no idea. I was already going in for the annual service when the CEL popped up on Friday. I don't have a scanner.

After my first oil change, I started to get "oil level above maximum" alerts. I brought it back to the dealership and they kept my car overnight for the same reason they told you. So yeah, it is a legit reason, as far as I understand.

As far as the CEL, the service rep said it was most likely a sensor, but I haven't heard anything back yet. I have a loaner so not expecting a call until tomorrow.

If this is a dealer, then it makes no sense as the PIWIS reports oil level real time.

If it's an indy, then understandable.

My 2021 Spyder has been in for 2 annual services and both times in/out same day.

Same for several annual services on my 987 Spyder.

Yes, this is a bonafide dealer. I took it in for its 10,000 mile/1 year service.

I now work at in a dealer's service department as a retirement gig. I know it's weird and almost unbelievable, but the PIWIS and the car's readout can sometimes disagree enough that it makes it hard for the tech to decide what the oil level in the car really is, especially with the 4.0 engines. I've seen the car's MFD show an overfill when the PIWIS was reporting the level as fine. Given enough time the two tend to become consistent. The techs certainly find this as frustrating as anyone since they can't rely of the PIWIS to keep them from overfilling without waiting a long time or just targeting a lower level and hoping the customer is fine with that. (The GT car manuals actually recommend that about 80% full is preferred).

In any case OP, I don't think they were being untruthful with you; they just wanted to make sure they had your oil level correctly topped off without having you get an over-fill message 20 miles down the road. Unfortunately I've seen it happen. They probably didn't get to your car until later in the work day and ran out of time to let it safely settle. This is more of a problem with a full oil change than with a simple top-off, although you still have to be quite careful with top-offs since the lag can still make it easy to overfill.

Weird, my oil change (1st year service) took 2 hours. Maybe the dealer was just overbooked that day?

Dealer kept my car overnight. No big deal, just request something cool as a courtesy car like a Taycan.
Independent workshop returned it to me the same day.

I think its more about being overbooked.

I used my iCarSoft v3, for the first time, to readout oil levels when I did our yearly oil changes ‘round Christmas time. It was fascinating - for frustrating values of “fascinating.”

The reading has units of millimeter, varies with oil temperature, engine rpm, and is “upside down” (i.e. a lower value means more-full.) So, even though you get “a reading” it’s very hard to correlate it with an amount of oil to add.

Obviously (to me a least) there’s some sort of software algorithm that convolves the “mm” reading with oil temperature (and probably several other parameters) to produce the MFD display.

Since oil drain time is also a significant variable, it’s an ‘art’ to get the oil filled to my preferred 50% mark on the MFD display on the first try. I had my notes from previous oil changes for drain time, fill quantities, and eventual MFD readings though.
