If anyone needs to see these charts in MPH instead of KPH, this site is very useful:

Hi All.
Is there any solutions for getting the GT4 to be more punchy even in 1st, as you still gotta wind it up to really get it moving when your pulling out from standstill.
The only solution was the crown and pinion but it seems the last poster had some wear after 30,000 miles on his final drive kit, not too shabby I guess?
Was considering either a Auto-Quest or BGB final drive. Seems only other full gear kit that gets shorter in 1st is the Guard kit?
Cheers.

Looking at some gearing options for close ratio. Below are OEM, DeMan, 2 other options.
Thoughts on options 1 & 2 for a street/canyon car that occasionally goes to the track twice a year. One concern with DeMan option is 2nd is still pretty long, but with other options, perhaps ratios are too close? Peak torque in the 4.0 is 5000-6800rpm, Power 7600rpm.

How fast do you go max at the tracks where you drive? Some of those stacks have too big a gap to the high gear(s) if you will exceed the speed possible in the close gears. It'll really feel like you hit a wall at high speeds when shifting into a much taller gear (the aero resistance is so strong that you want close to max power, not losing too many rpm from the previous gear).

I have ordered the C&P set from RPM Technik (UK) together with their taller 6th. The gearing should be 14 % shorter overall with the taller 6th making 3K RPM at 160 kph, which i find okay for cruising. I will need to send them my ECU for modification.
The downside is they prescribe gearbox oil change after 5000 road miles, but that would be about the annual mileage i make on the car, so just an additional annual maintenance item for me.
I will follow up with details here once i have this installed.
More details here: https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/transmissio...arbox-upgrade/

I am using the RPM solution, they fitted it and it makes a great difference 0-60mph and in second and third gear in particular, v pleased. Not suited to high torque engines (DeMan do NOT do this) and comment on oil changes is spot on. RPM are looking to offer a man gear box enlarged oil cooler with fan in the coming months too for track rats.

Took the car (718 Spyder) with the RPM Technik final drive installed for a spin yesterday. As I did a good portion of the labor involved myself, it "only" cost me around 7K USD total to do this. The money is really well spent though. I went for the taller 6th, so the 5th gear now tops at 240 kph and the 6th lets you cruise at 3K RPM at 160 kph.
These two seemingly contradicting feelings about the gear change prevail in me:
1) The car is quite transformed and most of all feels much more alive in its midrange. Rushing out of slower corners in second gear (starting at around 4K RPM) now happens with much more urgency and much less guaranteed traction even on brand new cup2s, which is really welcome as it makes the drive ever more involving.
2) Until you get to the taller 6th, the car feels completely "natural" in the way it could (and perhaps should) come like this from the factory. This has to do with my decision to only have the clutch disc equipped with beefier friction material compared to OEM, while the rest of the clutch incl. flywheel was kept stock (car has 9K miles now). The gearing overall feels so well matched to the rest of the package.
If you could find a gearbox shop in your vicinity, that could do the final drive install without running you bankrupt, I would highly recommend this mod to anyone with a 981/718 MT car.

I replaced gears 2 through 5 on my 2020 718 Spyder. The new gears were ordered from GT Gears and installed in NYC by Formula Motorsports. I also replaced the clutch and syncros since my car has over 30,000 miles on it.
Just spent 3 days driving around the Catskills on mountain roads, and I'm very satisfied with the new ratios. The car feels more responsive at most speeds, and I find myself changing gears with greater frequency. Overall, I feel more engaged in the driving experience, and the car feels quicker. I couldn't perceive any increase in gearbox noise, but that might be because I simultaneously replaced the OEM over-axel-pipes and muffler with a new Kline inconel exhaust, which has transformed the auditory experience.
The only (very minor) downside is the gear indicator below the tach now thinks 6th is 4th.
