Cayman has been my dream car; finally in a position to buy a GTS 4.0, is it bad time?

3% rounding up.

Anyone who says a 12 second lap time difference on a 7 minute circuit is not HUGE, does not race and does not know what race performance is all about.

A 12 Second difference is;
  1. The difference between P1 and P20 at the Race start
  2. Fully Lapping the slower car in a 40 lap race
  3. Wining and Loosing (badly)
If this was not significant, Porsche would not make the GT4 with all of the suspension, engine and aerodynamic improvements over the GTS in the first place,

If you just use your Cayman to drive around town, go to work, and pleasure drives, then sure, this stated 12 second performance difference between a GT4 & GTS means little to you, and you should not really care whether you buy a Cayman Base, S or GTS....... as their relative performance is inconsequential to you.

Many GT4 and GTS owners rarely track their cars so the performance difference on public roads is insignificant.

GTS on same size tires in Sport Cup 2's would probably be a lot less than 12 seconds behind the GT4. GT4 does have bigger brakes and more trick suspension but I reckon the difference would be closer to 6 seconds than 12, if they were both on the same tires. Still for the average mortal really not a lot in it. I couldn't get a GT4 allocation so have a GTS on it's way instead. However as I do 90% road driving anyway the GTS suits my purposes more. Loved my previous 981 GTS

Couldn't agree more. I would much rather have a GTS spec'd the way I wanted it than a GT4 that was in a spec that was not my first choice. The wheels and tires are easy to change. There may be a bit more precision feel to the GT variants, and the looks are arguably more aggressive, but beyond that, differences are really mental masturbation. Unless you are in race for money, or are seriously in the running for some kind of world record or title, the only thing that ultimately matters is how much fun you will have, and the subjective experience, be it on an empty scenic mountain road, or at a track.

I had driven a manual GT4 it was great but felt the suspension was very stiff for regular street driving, i hope the GTS 4.0 is softer and smoother for street driving , yet to drive one

Consider the GTS the Touring version of the GT4.... its built more like a cruiser, and it will be smoother.

IIRC the GTS option with the 10mm raised suspension has softer sway bars
