i will be wrapping the whole car. i’m referring to wrapping these rock chip prone areas separately for easier replacement as needed since i don’t believe the PPF will will begin to tear with constant rock strikes.

Was at the XPEL HQ shop and they were wrapping a GT4RS.

Their recommendation for these cars is 10mil in front, skirts, rear, etc…standard everywhere else.

yes, wing gets chipped

if she’s a keeper, and chips/swirls bother you, PPF the whole thing 👍

My car has STEK and I don't believe they offer a thicker film for wear areas so my installer doubled up on the areas behind the front wheels and the inside face. I have absolutely seen light rash right through the PPF after a hard season. I think doubling up or using a thicker specific PPF on this area is a must. That cutaway spot is going to hammered..

Actually, they do. I have STEK DynoMight on the rockers, front fenders, and STEK DynoShield everywhere else. STEK says the DynoMight is considerably more durable. There is no visual difference between the two as far as I can tell over my arctic grey RS.

I just had my driver side carbon mirror cap replaced due to this on my GT4RS after getting a full car Xpel Ultimate PPF wrap. The clear coat started to pill from the front bottom section where the gloss black is, so I decided to remove the film further examine the issue. The clear coat is very very thin and comes off quite easily especially from the edges where the clear coat is not spray over the edge.

I kind of see this as a design issue where the mirror is part carbon fibre with gloss black surround, the new carbon mirror say on 992 GT3 is fully carbon which is probably a fix to this. Definitely don’t want to remove the PPF off the mirror ever if you don’t have to!

Yes, seriously shocking. Firsting time I’ve come across a pilling mirror cap from 17 cars I’ve owned in the past 20 years. Otherwise the GT4RS is a sweet car! 😅

Did they change design? Maybe it’s the angle, but doesn’t look like this WP mirror…

Looks the same to me... you can see the black surround. The one above is just zoomed in. KeepItLow, did they replace the mirror cap under warranty? Curious how your other mirror cap looks? Any evidence of the same thing happening.

Here's the 992 mirror for reference... The entire cap is CF with no black border.
