Default GT4RS Break-In Discussion

How are you guys breaking in your car? Is it just don’t rev over 5-6k rpm for 1k miles or is it 3-4k rpm then slowly move up from there?

I believe it’s under 7k rpm for 1500km (932 miles)

Any truth in a rumour I heard that if you go over the 7k during the break in period, which can be checked at first service, that it could potentially affect warranty ??

You can check in the owners’ manual, but in my 991.2 GT3 manual the break-in recommendation was given in a section called “Hints for Best Performance”. No way they could cancel your warranty for failing to follow a “hint”.

They would have to tell you that your warranty was at issue.

In my opinion they recommend the break in for the driver to get used to the power and traction of the car. Legal had a hand in drafting it I’m sure. Everyone has their own appetite for break in but these engines should be ready to go on day one, just make sure they are up to operating temp, if they weren’t it would be a mandatory break in with warranty implications. Just my 2 cents.

under 7k rpm for 1500km, this is what is in the manual.
i was following this most of the time however I could not resist and tried 9k rpm couple of times.
did my first check at the dealer after 1500 km, no issue.

i was told by my SA that I could skip the break-in procedure. Have 200 KM on the clock. Might go on track tomorrow.

Not necessary. Anyone can skip the break-in if they choose. It won't affect your warranty. Whether it may produce a car that runs worse or have a shorter life is up for debate.

Ahh yes here we go again... My comment was more about taking a salesman's word on decisions that only PAG can make.

Yes, but PAG already has already made the decision to allow the car to rev to 9,000 rpm from the first mile (some brands have a lower rev limiter during break-in) and provided no warning of lost warranty in the owner's manual if one doesn't observe break-in. What the dealer says or writes is irrelevant on this issue.

In general, your advice is good to take a salesman's comments with a grain of salt though.
