@Adrift I've had something similar happen once, assumed it was operator error. IIRC, I turned off and on the AC button, then things were happy. Dual zone. It's otherwise always worked as expected.
We had a similar experience CGTS with ~1k miles. I brought the car home after a spirited run. Wife immediately took it out. No A/C for almost 20 min. Finally just came back on. Happened once and has not happened again, so far. Very hot weather. 90+
Almost like the compressor was not engaging. Seems like it might be a broader problem.
Interesting that more people are reporting the same issue. Wondering if anybody with easy access to the owner's manual can check it to see if there is anything in there in the A/C section that says maybe this is normal behavior under certain conditions.
I drive with the top down like 90% of the time and unless it's in the high 90'sF in SoCal and I'm stuck in stop and go traffic, I don't turn on the A/C on a regular basis but of the times that I have turned it on, it's worked fine. Can't offer any other data point other than that.
Maybe this is like how Porsche designed their rear taillights to have condensation under certain circumstances. I've never owned a car where the rear taillights have condensation and if they did, that would mean the taillights are cracked and would need to be repaired. Apparently Porsche designed them with a hole somewhere so condensation is normal. With that thought process where none of us are used to this operating pattern for A/C, I'm wondering if this A/C "issue" is how Porsche designed it to operate under certain circumstances and it's therefore "normal?"
Something isn't engaging the compressor. AC is on/off, or should be...no magic involved. Anyone who goes to a dealer for this please report back what you're told.
I don't know whether confirmation is a good thing (I've got some crazy unique issue) or a bad thing (possible inherent design flaw?). I am surprised no one has had it checked out yet.
This is common with VAG cars, perhaps others. You state you had the car running for a few mins, turned off AC, back on, car off and back on etc. It takes a few mins for the car to adjust, especially if you don't use A/C often.
I get into my Q3 daily, HVAC set to auto and AC always on. Often the fan speed is blowing strong but nothing is happening but a few secs after it figures out what is needed dependant on temp etc and sorts itself out. Also keep in mind that any temp sensors in the car do need a few secs to get an accurate reading. Let's say your car is in the garage, much cooler than it it outside, the sun isn't hitting the car etc. Well, the HVAC needs time to adjust. You will should notice the same with the temp reading. On a hot day it will take a few mins of driving before you get an accurate reading. With mine at least, it could read 18 degrees when according to the weather it's actually 22 yet when I set the temp reading starts to climb and by then time I've left the estate, it's now reading closer to what it actually is.
In short, set it, leave it and it should sort itself out.
I've had this exact same problem as the OP twice now! I've got close to 4K miles on my '22 CGTS with dual-zone climate control. I set the key memory so that the AC doesn't turn on when the car is started, because I prefer to drive with the windows down unless it's oppressively hot. So I rarely turn the AC on.
In both cases when the AC was turned on but never got cool, I simply pulled over, shut down the car, waited 5 seconds, and restarted the car. Almost immediately after the restart, the car was blowing cool air. So I assume it's a software glitch. Glad to see that others are having the exact same problem!
Add one more to the list for dual-zone AC! It happened to me one time in 4k miles.
No matter how low we set the temperature it just kept blowing hot outside air. The fan got faster as if the system logic was trying to increase cooling but the compressor wasn't engaging.
Like several others turning the car off and back on fixed it.
