Default Allocation waitlist transparency?

I'm curious, how many of you on waitlists know your position on said list? I've seen others post that they are #3, #1, etc. but none of the dealerships I'm working with disclose the list position.

I think its pretty widely accepted that waitlist positions are completely up to the dealership and being a certain number in line doesn't really mean anything.

A lot of dealerships are willing to skip someone over the line if they means they can make more money. You can be #1 on the list for an MSRP GT4/Spyder but if people come by willing to pay 20k ADM, you'll be skipped over while maintaining that #1 spot.

I was supposedly #1 at my local dealership for about 5 months. I ended up getting an allocation at a dealership out of state.

^^^ 100% this ^^^ Which is why many dealerships won't even share what "position" you are in, because it leads to false expectations.

Agreed. Allegedly "there is only one person in front of" me for a BGTS at a relatively high volume dealer, but the dealer has never mentioned an ADM one way or the other. What I do know is that he told me they just got a BGTS with 900 miles and it's listed for $135k. So I am not holding my breath about getting the car (if I even get the allocation) for MSPR. Mind you, I am ok not getting the car until 2023, so I hope by then AMDs, if any, are more reasonable (~5k).

But all other dealers refused to acknowledge a place in line.

For the really juicy stuff, even the "good guys" who don't charge ADM sometimes require you buy other cars from them or some such (ie ADM in another form) in order to get an allocation for what you really want (like a hot model such as the 4rs). Which I guess isn't a terrible punishment in today's market, as you can immediately sell and recoup a lot.

Another thing to add is that each SA is working their own client list.

Large dealers have lots of SAs.

Regardless of lists these allocations are discussed and allocated w/SM.

Recently a RL’r shared he walked into a dealership in NorCal and got an allocation on the spot. Believe he agreed to a 30-50K ADM. I’m sure he stepped over a bunch on the “list”.

Don’t go radio silent thinking you’ll get a call. Be proactive and have frank discussions with sales team. Ask what it’ll take….

It is SO nice being on the other side of the "wanting a car" wall at this point in time. Only a sniff of an SRS would cause me worry now, and I won't get that. (Can we now shorten spyder rs to SRS for brevity, please? lol)

Was that for a GTS or GT car?

Back in March 2021 I left a $1,000 deposit for a Spyder allocation and to be added to a very high volume dealer in South Florida. After waiting 6 months in September 2021 with no word from my sales agent I decided to give him a call to ask where I was on the list and if he had an information. When I spoke with him he said they haven't received any Spyder allocation and weren't sure if they would receive any more that year. I asked him where I was on the list and he didn't have an answer for me. He also told me if I was serious about getting a new Spyder to shop around and see if any other dealers could help me. The next day I walked into another local dealer in South Florida and they had an allocation for a 2022 718 Spyder I could take over, but there was a catch. They wanted ADM, they started at $15k, I countered at $10k and we met at $12k. I wasn't going to let $12k keep me from getting my dream car I have been saving up for over 5 years. They wanted a $5,000 non-refundable deposit what I had no problem leaving with them so I can place my order. I would do it again in a heart beat without a doubt. After we agreed on the deal I had 10 days until my freeze date so I was able to order it exactly how I wanted it and it came out better then I expected. I have had my Spyder for over 5+ months now and loving every second behind the wheel every weekend. As others have mention, $$$ talks when it comes to allocations. In my case I believe it was their allocation for the dealership rather then me taking an allocation from a person. If you want to get your hands on an allocation walk into as many dealers as possible and speak with a few sales agents. It won't be easy but maybe you will be in the right place at the right time like me and be able to order your dream car.

Wow I wish I was in a position to buy last year. I'd gladly pay 12k ADM. Unfortunetly I have to pay 20k ADM when my car gets here and I put down a 10k nonrefundable deposit. I did make sure I got everything including final sale price in writing so they don't try and pull any funny business.

I knew prices were only going to go up and it would become more difficult to get your hands on a Spyder allocation so I figured it was now or never. Glad I made the move when I did. I know it’s a nightmare now to find 1 plus pay the additional markup if you’re lucky enough to find 1. Glad you got yours, enjoy the ride when you get it.

I am #5 on my dealer’s list now, almost a year later since I went on it. Nobody gets bumped ahead, no ADM.
