I have the same exact thought. I don’t care for auto, ever. It sounds like a damn dyson in other cars at least. But the placement without dual zone seems unusual.

Honestly I miss the simple climate control from older cars. Seems pretty straightforward: if you're too hot, turn temp down. Too cold, turn it up. It's not like a house where you'd have to walk to the thermostat; it's always in arms reach there. What benefit do numbers add? Worse is when the numbers don't just represent the temperature of air being blown, but actually act as a target the car tries to hit. So the same number could mean wildly different air temperatures being blown at you based on how hot the car thinks it is. I'd far rather just directly control the temperature of the air coming out the vents!
***** were better than toggle buttons though, so you could adjust directly to where you wanted it.

honestly the best climate control system out of all the cars I've ever owned was in my S2000. Fan didn't blow too hard unless it was turned all the way up, and the temp was very easily adjusted and just had the blue/red indicators. No numbers. And it was perfect. You know what sucked? Was my M2 Competition, where you could set this number and it never felt like any air was blowing and it would get stuffy, but if you turned the fan up it acted more like an on/off switch and either barely blew or blew too hard. I hated it. And that was a 60k car in 2021. Give me simple, Give me control. Takes 500 clicks? Perfect, that means I can get the fans to go precisely how I want.

Since my name was mentioned I guess I have to chime in - get the dual-zone, not because it has numbers but because the standard one sucks.

I have the single zone climate control. It’s not the lack of numbers or multiple clicks to adjust the fan speed that bothers me.
What really bothers me is that every time I start the car, the fan is on, regardless of the prior fan setting. Turned off the fan during your previous drive? Too bad…next time you start the car, the fan speed will be on the low. Very annoying.

Like others have said, mine has no numbers, and I couldn't care less. I only drive with the top down so it's either off, full hot, or full cold. I also never use auto setting in any of my cars. Literally never.

I had base/manual hvac in a '16 GT4. Didn't bother me when I was alone, although I do agree with the ***** and levers over current button controls. Problem for me was when wife was in car and we had to arm wrestle over hot or cold. Different temp air for me + wife = happier, less sweaty driving.

I don’t know why people get so worked up over this. Just buy what you like.
I’ve had the base climate control in multiple Porsches now, and it suits me just fine. I like it simple, and auto A/Cs have frustrated me in previous cars.
But I also don’t feel compelled to debate those that prefer the dual zone option. Options are good, folks. If it came standard, I’d actually dislike it more.
