Zone 3 because going downhill? Doubtful, the car is full in rev limiter so accelerating downhill to get to Zone 3 is hard to believe. Typically that is captured in Zone 1 and perhaps into a Zone 2 under the most severe highway grade.

Range 1 is hitting the limiter. If your WOT into the limiter on a downhill and you hit fuel cut off, the momentum will carry you through to a higher RPM. Turn 6 or 8 at WGI for example. That would be a minimum range 2. Regardless 1-3 really shouldn't be of concern, any tracked car is getting a range 3 at some point. Folks in Porsche land seem to get very hung up on overrevs, not something really considered in BMW land at all.

Haven’t seen a over rev delineation for the various 718 motors, but in general Zone 1 is RL + 2-300 which generally covers your example. Zone 2 doesn’t start at 8001.

Here is a PCA technical answer for a different generation…but zone logic similar to other platforms.

Well I have confirmed by multiple Porsche dealers that the 718 gt4 only has 3 over rev zones. One SM said they account for which gear your in 1:1-2 2:3-4 abs 3:5-6

i bailed on the car with the over rev and bought a black cpo with 0 overrevs. Got a reasonable price all things considered. And I can’t wait to get it into my hands

^ that seems odd. How would one over rev it in 6th gear for example?

To be fair I didn’t appreciate the descriptions either. But it did say that Porsche won’t cpo a car with an overreaction in zone 3

Congrats on the purchase!

You’re SM is gooned up. There are 6 zones and it’s irrespective of gear you are in.

You can search on here or BAT for examples of 981/982 DME reports

Congrats on the GT4! I pick up my CPO 2020 Spyder next week but man reading these over-rev threads, replacing clutches and voiding warranties is making me $hit my pants about getting a manual when I have very minimal manual driving experience…. No need to hyperventilate now right? 😳

Honestly, the GT4/Spyder manual is one of the easiest to drive manual transmissions that I’ve encountered. I have had the GT4 for 3-4 months now and zero burnt clutches and no over revs. It’s a super easy car to drive at the limit or just around town. If I was teaching someone to drive manual, this is the car I would put them in.

Remember you always have 613 P Brothers willing to share some experience. 40 years doing three pedals so let me know if you need any help. BTW had to take advantage of the 13c last week and got her out for a run to Prescott and back for no reason

congrats on the spyder. I really wouldn’t worry about it too much. I’m just very **** when buying cars. We all know Porsche builds very robust motors.
