Good question. The images that you are looking at are of our very first prototype wheel which has a satin clear coat applied to the machined lip. The current sample wheels that we're playing with now have a gloss clear coat applied to the machined lip, which results in a really fantastic finish that pops quite a bit more and provides better contrast to the painted center.

We'll continue to drip out new photography so stay tuned!

Project ML-10 Background:

After Josh, one of our Senior Product Engineers installed a widebody kit on his race car project, he had to design a custom set of wheels to fit his extreme application. Originally a one off project, when he showed the team what he created, we were floored. And our community was too when we shared a picture on Instagram and Facebook.

We’ve made it an official project, but to make this wheel a reality, we need you to decide on some of the details by taking our survey.

Hey Brandon,

I love these wheels.

Is there any way you can allow the survey to choose multiple vehicles? I own several cars that I would love to put these on but your survey only allows you to choose once.

So how much lighter are the 20" VS-5RS over OEM wheels? I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread, but I couldn't find it.

I have the comparison in Post #3 for the factory GT4 wheels. The difficulty with the rest of the trim levels is the number of option wheels available, all with varying weights. For a 718 Cayman, there are six different wheel options to choose from. Tirerack generally has the tire weight on their site so you can get close to your specific wheel weight by measuring the wheel and tire combo and subtracting the tire weight. This isn't a perfect method as wheel weights (for balancing) and tire wear can affect it but this should get you close enough to come to a conclusion.

The biggest advantage IMO over the weight savings is the much sharper front-end with a more direct feel. When you turn in aggressively, the front no longer feels like it is collapsing on itself on the loaded wheel, is just flatly grips and goes as pointed. Thanks to the added width of the wheels themselves , plus the wider track.

Had I known the impact that makes, I would have gotten the wheels before my exhaust.

The FF10's listed are 5-bolt.

interesting. I didn't notice any sharper feel with the swap from OEM to the Apex wheels. They look the business but didn't feel a performance increase. I do only have 1 track day on the new wheels tho.

The offset changes from ET61 to ET52. In other words the front track increases by 18mm or 3/4 inch. A big difference. Everyone drives to a different level, but most will feel the difference when pushing harder on the road and certainly on track. If not, after you get used to the 9 inch fronts, put the old 8.5 narrower track OEM front tires back on and then it should become apparent.

FOR SURE!!

Since I plan on keeping my car for a long time, and I know I would never want to put the stock wheels back on after experiencing the APEX wheels, I sold my stock wheels. IMO, they should have use these off-sets from the factory, but I guess Porsche being Porsche.. hierarchy.

These look really good, I’m excited to see these on the market. I’d consider a set to run alongside my current wheels.
