I made the Spyder hole plugs and don’t mind sharing the files with you guys. The one with the “Porsche”name are relatively easy to print . I recommend using a material like PETG since it is UV resistance. To print it, like in the picture, it’s needs to be printed in an unconventional way since the writing is only one layer high and raised.
The plugs with the Spyder are a bit tricky if you don’t have a printer with dual extruders. But you can check in you area for a 3D printing service and they are most likely able to do it for you. The idea is to have a small LED behind the plug for a nice light effect . You can decide on the color of your Spyder inlays matching your cars features/color. Also the surface you print on will give the plug a distinct appearance. You can see that in the attached picture .
This are my test prints for the “Spyder” plug version .. I’m using a single extrusion printer and have to change material after the Spyder is printed.
Here you see more of the print details on the Porsche plug.
We all thank you! It appears these are the same as Odo3 has? I will PM you for the file - thanks again!
all this attention to detail is inspiring That little design element never bothered me until now. I live by the beach and keep my top down now mostly if not always so yeah there is the hole!? Be cool if the there was a real California Spyder kit that removed the roof and the plates to have permanent lightweight California Spyder?

This is wonderful. Thanks so much. I'll PM you for the file.
These holes bothered me from the day I bought my car. I couldn't understand why they didn't just make a little flap on a spring that pushed down when snapping the top in place and then sprang back into place when the buttress was unclipped. Seemed like a simple engineering fix for Germans.

I am glad to see I am not alone...I expected some grief when I started the thread but I am used to it! The 1948 991 Speedster owners would probably be interested in these as well, or saw I thought when one said he liked them as-is - I would have made this my first mod if the holes were in a painted surface as they are on the Speedsters!
