While waiting around for an allocation, I was also checking the 981 used market and came upon one that matched pretty close to the condition and options I was looking for. I decided to pull the trigger, and it arrived in mid-July. It's a 2016 Cayman S in Guards Red/Black with a 6-speed, 7k miles and pretty light in the option department, which was my preference. It has the standard silver interior trim with the Sport Design SW, base sport seats, power folding mirrors (which I didn't want but have since found useful). It has the P9A convenience package, smoking package and colored crests on the center caps. The only things I really wanted that I didn't get were the silver Carrera S wheels and the Sports Exhaust which I plan to add at some point. I was disappointed at first that it wasn't a 718 4.0 GTS, but it's really a nice car in its own right and that is slowly melting away. I gave up on the allocation situation and ADM climate and didn't want to get left without a car.

The car had PPF on the hood, bumper, fenders, doors, rocker panels, mirrors, a-pillars and top. I was nervous that it could be potentially 7 years old and also wanted access to the paint, so I removed all but the front bumper and rocker panels. It came off without incident with help from my heat gun, although it was a lot of work. Interestingly, I found the paint underneath to need some correction, so I have been busy perfecting the finish and I'm finally getting close to being done. It's coming along nicely so far and is really quite clean as it should be with limited use.

Here is the scene from ground zero right now:

Here are the products I have been using so far for the paint correction process. I started with the Sonax Cutmax, but the clearcoat is too hard for that so I switched to Meguiar's M105. I have been experimenting with M205 and Sonax Perfect Finish for the final polishing stage. I have enjoyed the bonding experience so far and look forward to bringing everything up to my admittedly OCD standards.

Big thanks to Randy for great work on my 2023 Spyder which is due to be delivered in December. He took my build sheet and paid attention to every last detail. Love it!

I have been getting a few inquiries lately so I wanted to bump the thread for anyone who may have missed it originally. I'm also working on the 981 generation cars now that I have one myself and they are so similar.

Hey Ted! Small world. If you want to see Randy's work in person, I have a 2'x3' banner hanging in my garage of my CGTS.

RoadrunnerGTS,

I love the print you put together. I have similar graphics from Randy and looking to do something similar. Can you point me to your source for the GTS 4.0 script?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Randy,

Thanks again for the great graphics! First your work, and then the freshly delivered real thing.

Best,
Greg

I used Randy's drawing for a 16x24 metal print for my home office.

Thanks, Randy!

This is awesome! What is the largest size these can be printed out as? I'd love the 2 motor pics and car pic to all be the same size as large as possible without getting too pixelated
