How raw does the GT4 feel?
With no availability or chance to drive one here, I am wondering owner’s comments on the driving feel of the GT4.
I find the 991.2 at times too good, and it loses that raw feel that I enjoy. I am quite interested in the GT4 and wonder if it still has some of that raw driving/feel the road left?

Definitely, definitely, definitely more raw than a 991. Also definitely more sporty feeling. You won't be disappointed.

10 months ago when I decided to get another Porsche, I test drive the 992 a few times, and honestly I didn’t like it. It wasn’t feeling like a sports car, it felt heavy, bulky, didn’t like the sound, didn’t like the turbo lag, just wasn’t what I was looking for, nothing raw about it. The GT4 was the perfect fit, it checked all the boxes I wanted and craved for, raw, and pure awesomeness

I think the GT4 is the grownup 2006 Lotus Exige. I went from the Exige to the 718 GT4. Light, mid-engine, manual sports car with a N/A engine that revvs to 8000. No it is not as raw but the Exige is one of the rawest cars out there. I do think an over axle pipe is needed at the least to give a better sound. But the Exige needed an aftermarket exhaust as well. Only thing that doesn’t really compare is the steering. Lotus unassisted steering is just superior.

It's a great driving experience, raw by today's standards yet everyday usable if you want.
As noted by others the exhaust needs help, plenty of options out there.
Note - If you really want raw, drive a 997.1 GT3 if the opportunity presents.

I think it’s quite refined, but that’s a personal thing. Find a local Rennlist member who will take you for a ride. I asked my dealer if he had a customer with a Spyder who would let me look at it before I ordered mine. He did, and the owner was happy to invite me over, show me the car, and take me for a ride. I’d do the same.

Assume the GT4 steering is still VG though?

I have been lucky enough to have owned the 718 GT4 manual for 8 months and now the PDK for 2 months, and if you want the best in raw experience, get the Manual, its beyond amazing how good that transmission is, I think its the best and finest car I have ever owned. I got the PDK for tracking, otherwise I would be still driving the Manual. And yes, please get a SOUL OAP, it transforms the cars sound into out of this world experience, it cracks, pops, gargles, all the things you want, its just amazing, not too loud, but just enough!!
The funny part is, I was one of those guys who said "ppfffft, who would drive a Cayman, thats a sub class car", well, i was 100% wrong. this car is soooo under rated, its not even funny.
Go out and test drive one, you will see. Only buy the 992 if you want a cruiser, lol

GT4 is raw for modern standards as said. I love the stiff suspension as a weekend driver. I would daily it too if it weren’t for LA traffic.

The 982 GT4 actually feels very refined to me, and any sense of “rawness” may be artificially injected by the engineers.
Ymmv, I came from Lotus ownership and drive crummy race cars on the weekends, both of which provides a far more stimulating driving experience.
