IMO, this car is good for:
- Fun drives on the road in good weather, if you don't have to stop anywhere
- Cars & Coffee, if the weather is good and you don't mind the car being open
- Possibly for investment, but hard to say; the car isn't truly a 'last of its kind' car
I think the car isn't a good choice for daily driving, running errands, driving in bad or mixed weather, long trips, or track.

My 981 Spyder has been my only car for nearly 8 years. A 2-seat roadster has been my only car for 15 years. Well over 99% of the miles between both cars has been top down, including through rain and snow HUNDREDS of times. Including kicking up dirt like a rally stage through northern New England mountain roads. I have done around a dozen trips where I drove the car for 12-18 hours in a single day.
Yet my mechanic will still remark that my car looks too perfect when it goes to him — until he comments on pickup (me arriving via train) on how I can better clean out sand from weird places.

I live in Boston, and my 981 Spyder does all of those things regularly, save for short errands, because I refuse to use any car for that.

If a watch is all the ADM you have to pay, that is a HUGE win.
I am wondering if 80-90% of these will just go to 918 VIPs. And if so...what's the freaking point of making the car at all (from a non-VIP perspective)? The 918 VIP deal is poison to the rest of us. (nothing personal to the VIPs on here, of course)
(grumble grumble)

It's not. From the way I was told, if you want the watch you need to buy the watch from Porsche direct. But, to do that you need to have an order in for a Spyder RS with weissach package first. No order no watch possible.

Not just the GT3 motor... ANY flat 6.
Now... that seems like shenanigans but I watched a video not too long ago comparing the 4-cyl GTS to the GTS 4.0 and there was a huge surprise in there. Apparently the firewall was moved forward for the 6's to fit so there's less leg room in those cars with the seat at the full back position. I did NOT see that one coming and it suggests that they really did design the 982 platform with the thought that the new 4 cylinder motors would be accepted and were the future of the platform.
Moving the firewall is not a small change.
So knowing that... I'm now a lot less ready to call BS on those statements and think there's probably truth to them when they're said. Of course, the engineers can always find a way.

Someone already responded not required. i’m just gauging what the impact would be if i opt out of the watch if i decide to sell the Spyder RS in the future. as for the price, it’s about $12K.

i would never pay ADM for anything, ever.

You’re right..
I don’t know if this is a common knowledge or not, but in case it isn’t, i’ll share what i’ve learned from the GM at the dealership. Porsche is running a program with the dealers to sell the European delivery experience. if they do, porsche will replace / add another allocations for the same vehicle which was sold with the european delivery. in my case, my dealership offered to fly to germany on my behalf (they cover the cost of flight & hotel) to pick up the car, drop it back off, sign the papers and fly back in order to replace the allocations.
i am actually taking the european delivery for at least 1 of the 2 vehicles this year.
perhaps if you say this to your SA, it will increase your chances? It wouldn’t hurt to try..
