Default Add a subwoofer to stock stereo?

My only real complaint about the stock stereo is it's lack of bass punch. Is it possible to add a subwoofer without any other mods?

I’m guessing you didn’t option Bose? The Bose isn’t audiofile quality but does have sufficient bass.

Yes you can add a sub. It will require some sort of sound processer to interface to the factory system and an amp. You can also just get a powered sub that has an amp, but you still need a sound processor to interface to the factory system.

If you do this, go to a high end shop that has done a lot of porsches.

With all of that said, I recommend you don’t do it. This just isn’t the kind of car that you wanna be running wires through or having some heavy non OEM enclosure in.

If I were doing any upgrades to the stereo, it would be amp only. People don’t understand sound quality comes from whatever is driving it and not the speakers. I’ve heard an “amp only” upgrade to a stock Bose system and I was blown away. JL Audio amp of course.

Thanks for that. I was hoping I could just replace the sub with a better one. You're right, I don't want to mess around running wires, or have an enclosure in the trunk.

That is...not true. The generally accepted breakdown of the effect of various components on sound reproduction is that first and foremost comes the room (car interior) itself, followed immediately by the speakers. Any other electronics are a distant third.

For what I play on Sat radio, the vocals are ok, but the bass doesn't have any punch. If I boost the signal, it sounds awful. I keep the bass setting at 0, and the treble setting to +6.

My point was people(maybe like you) downplay the significance of the quality of power. There is a different between a Krako amp and a JL amp.

Stop listening to sat radio and use a phone music app plugged directly into the usb slot, not Bluetooth. That will give you a small improvement.

"People like me" downplay it because there are generally upgrades that are a much bigger bang for the buck. Like speakers. No one said there isn't a difference between a Krako and a JL amp.

Go one further and use a higher quality source like Tidal's HiFi service.

Adding a sub to the frunk or upgrading the existing sub is a waste of money IMO. The only thing that will materially improve your sound with the Bose is improving the source. Sat radio sounds like ca ca on the Bose.

your best bet is to never turn the stereo on again. Maybe get an exhaust.

I listen to a talk radio show in the morning, and it's fine, not great, but acceptable. It's when I play the classic rock channels, it's sounds awful. I do have Spotify, with the output set to highest, and yes, it is better, but I prefer the programming on Sat.
