I think the Platinum would flow better with the other darker accents and provide some light contrast...I find the black wheels getting lost in the other black accents. Also, it's a shame he didn't have many positives to say about the Spyder /s
I used to like the look - but now I far in away prefer something in the platinum space... nothing TOO SHINY or TOO DULL!
Yes, black wheels are a bad fashion that has gone on for too long.
Blue is tricky, as i had a SB with silver on order and switched to GT Silver + platinum after seeing SB on a VW in sunlight. SB is too flat and pastel in the sunlight. Rekon on SB you have to go silver to bring some pop to the SB. Thing is different cars wear colours differently. IMO. The GT3 can carry SB well, 718 can't.
Your thoughts on the personality of the wheels is exactly my feeling as well. I just haven't been a fan of platinum. Just look a little dirty to me for some reason. I haven't seen any in person. My build locks in early October so I need to get out and see some examples.
I really think you should see Platinum in person....

To help give you an idea of what platinum might look like. My car is Riviera blue which is on the lighter side of the bright blue spectrum whereas Shark Blue is on the darker side of the bright blue spectrum but it might give you an idea since as you say, you haven’t seen any in person.
Personally, I think the platinum has depth and character that I don't see in the silver and black. With the silver, the light is washed out and you don't get the depth and variation in the reflection of light and the black is the same and IMO, either reflects to make the wheel look light black or "dark" (satin) black. Check out my second picture below as it illustrates the depth and variations of the light reflections.
Not knocking your eventual choice or anybody's choice. Just giving my opinion as you asked people's opinion and just sharing our decision making process. YMMV.

I still have this set of Forgelines sitting in the garage from my 16 GT4. The Gold might work on my incoming Shark Blue. If not I can have them recoated in another color.

Thanks for those pics and description. I think I need to travel and see all three in person. Good news is that I have almost 2 months before the build locks.

Good idea, careful though they can lock early with no notice.
I agree that you should look at platinum in person. The configurator renders make them look too flat and terrible and I probably wouldn't have chosen them based on the configurator render. HalfMonkey's photos are much more representative of how they look in real life.
Like stated earlier they have more sheen and show off pretty good detail in sunlight. The configurator's render of yellow PCCBs sucks too... it really make them look blah.

@halfmonkey you’re right - these pics show off a lot more depth in the finish than the configurator does. Should’ve known though. Shark Blue didn’t look as good render vs real photo.
Black all the way. I’m going with a black exterior theme though. Black door handles. Blacked out logo on the back. And black light washers. I’ll likely go black exhaust tips as well when I do the exhaust. Black calipers for now but will likely paint yellow as I have stitching/dials/belts in yellow. Our builds sound very similar. I did not do PCCB. I am currently V300. If it wasn’t for the on sale date restriction you’d have something to look at on my car. Good luck brutha. A Spyder is a stunningly beautiful car no matter how you slice it.
Thanks for all of the input. I am going to stay with black wheels. I really like how the PCCB in yellow pops behind it and it makes the most aggressive look.
Changed the build a bit today. Switched back to silver stitching from the yellow on the interior for a more classic look. Got rid of the yellow chrono and seatbelts and went back to black. Also changed the dash/door trim from carbon fiber to brushed dark aluminum. Added steering column leather. And most importantly upgraded the stereo from bose to burmeister system.
