6mt vs pdk = 491 PAGES of results
mt or pdk = 493 PAGES of results
so I was looking to the experts to a) give me their opinions or b) tell me a better/more efficient way to look as I'm too lazy to look through 400+ threads to find what I'm looking for.
I know, slacker, but why beat my head on a wall if there are people like yourself who are so willing to help??

Can't find this topic on any threads, so I figured I'd ask.
Knowing there are hardcore enthusiasts out there who insist you must have MT or must have PDK, I'm trying to understand the distinction. Since you can manually shift the PDK (which I assume is going to give you the same sound/response as the 6MT), what's the rationale (other than "always been done that way" or "that's what we purists do") for MT vs PDK? PDK costs more, but if you can shift when you want, what's the advantage of the MT or the disadvantage of the PDK? Let the debate begin!!

I drove a Boxster a 6MT for 16 years and loved it but just ordered a PDK as now that I'm getting older, I want the ACC that's only available with the PDK so I have no experience manually shifting (nor using) a PDK, but it seems like it ought to be the same as shifting a 6MT, though that not as "Porsche-like" for the purists.
What I have found here on Rennlist.com is that giving one's opinion can end up not in a good way ......... long term with some Rennlist members.
I did that with multiple Threads on the CBS (Carbon Bucket Seats) and even gave supporting Magazine Reviews as well as You-Tube videos as examples.
Trust me some topics are best left to others as I am going to do with this Thread.
Good-Luck on your Thread buddy,
Terry

Dear Confussed66 - by now you're hopefully cooled off from your initiation gauntlet of flames, a nice drink in hand etc... Just to let you know, as you're new here, you've innocently stumbled upon one of the most exhaustively debated subjects on these forums - the "To PDK or Not to PDK (MT). That is the question" debate.
Truthfully there's no right answer, I've had them both. The PDK is wicked fast and lots of fun in manual mode flapping the paddles, but there is nothing quite like a nice schnickity pull of a 6-speed manual as comes with these 718's. That's what I ordered in my new Spyder and happy I did. But I almost at the last minute changed it to the PDK! It's what many of us believe is the swan song of the manual transmission, the last chance to order one in a new car etc... The 992? A 7-speed PDK derived manual that is not as nice.
So congrats on your order and welcome to the forum. You will love the PDK. What's the rest of your build? THAT'S what we're all interested in!
P.s. And don't feel bad about asking your original question. What to have some more fun? Go over the 996 Forum and start a new thread with "What's the Deal on the IMS?" Don't even put in "IMS Bearing". And sit back!

The same topics are discussed and argued about constantly on these automotive forums which all seem to have the usual handful of self appointed moderators quick to jump on someone.
There are always new or alternative perspectives on these very common subjects, unfortunately some don't see it that way. They can just get over it or better yet start their own forum and tell people what to do.
