Agree 100%. It's so easy to do it myself that I've never even pressed the auto blip button. I forgot I even had it. It's all part of the driving experience for me and one that I'd never want to live without. Since there is a dedicated button, it's kind of a moot point. Use if if you want, don't if you don't. It's a criminal offense that Porsche only gives GT drives that choice. I couldn't live with the otherwise-great GTS for that alone.

I’ll add more… this is the first car I’ve owned that had pedals aligned in a way that you could heel and toe. My old 4 speed Muncie days? Forget it (not that anyone even knew what it was in those days).
The ‘06 Accord 5 speed DD I owned was possible, but I never practiced it enough to have any real competency at it.
At 63, I’m not going to even attempt it when I can push a button and downshift like a boss.

Yep. Same experience here. Braking hard into a turn on track, down into 2nd, missed rev match and the back end became very unsettled at speed and while turning. Remember that PDK is a far superior track tool, so the rev match feature on the manual gearbox, similarly, makes it a much better track tool.

How is it a crutch? A crutch is being dependent on something that is otherwise a bad practice or unhealthy.

Auto-blip indeed something you can become dependent on, but there's nothing bad about it. In fact, it allows you to keep more constant brake pressure while downshifting compared to heel-toeing. There's no way you can do it better yourself. So i'd argue it's actually safer.

If you want to argue that it's "not manly", then sure go right ahead. It's just not a crutch...haha

Hmmm… good points! okay, I’ll look up some YouTube videos and bone up. I’ll report back, but don’t hold your breath.

Really? You have owned manual cars and never rev matched? So if you were cruising in 4th and wanted to downshift to 2nd you would just move the shifter and release the clutch without blipping the throttle? That must make for an extremely jerky ride and puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain.

Yes, I’ve owned many manuals and never seriously attempted to rev match. I have no doubt that rev matching is smoother and better for the car and look forward to my auto-blip overlords showing me the light.

So I guess you must not like anti-lock brakes then? Or any form of stability control ??

I've been impressed with auto blips accuracy while driving on the street. It is reliably better than me and I could easily see it being useful on the track when you are on the button and need a smooth downshift mid corner to not upset the car.

I have found it easy to rev match downshifts from 6th to 3rd, but the drop into 2nd is the most difficult because on the street I can't get into the brakes deep enough to give the gas pedal enough rev's to match properly. I can probably work on my seating position more and see if I can crack the code. I think for track driving I can probably nail it because braking is much harder there.

Initially I had AB on all the time on my Spyder.

Now that I’ve got the hang of the car, I leave it off unless I have a passenger or am in l traffic.

I’m still in the early stages of learning downshift blipping, so no heel-toe for me yet. The couple of times that I tried to heel-toe, I realized that you need to be pretty hard on the brake to be able to simultaneously blip the throttle.

Other than getting lots of practice, what other tips do the experienced downshift blippers have for novices like me? Biggest thing I struggle with is the timing of the blip relative to moving the shifter and re-engaging the clutch.
