Default GTS 4.0 w/PDK question

When I got my GTS w/pdk I was curious why my Tach had a red tick mark at 7800, since I had expected a redline of 8000. Articles about the car noted this as does the manual that came with the car. Oh well, I thought maybe they didn't bother to make a PDK specific tach face.

Now that I've finished break-in, I've determined(I think), that the ECU has the 7800 redline built in, as the fuel cutoff engages at 7800 and when in auto mode, even with sport button pushed, it shifts at 7800.

Any one else have this issue or any thoughts about why? I haven't spoken to service yet, thought I query the community first.

I thought with the GTS 4.0, the difference is that the lower hp is accompanied by the lower redline of 7800.

I thought the same as halfmonkey. But the manual does appear to show a 8000 RPM redline for PDK in the 4.0

I have a copy of that page ....it certainly does document a GTS 8000 rpm redline with PDK. Another mistake in the manual? I found many minor mistakes in the manual for my 2018 Cayman

I believe this is correct, GTS 7,800, GT4 and Spyder 8,000.

Mechanically the same as GT4 drivetrain. Redlines are controlled by marketing departments. My bet is that all these 4.0 engines could safely rev to 8500 if not for the software.

Agree, definitely marketing and product positioning. But as a product manager (I do it for a living), this is completely fair and I would have done the same.

As mentioned, it's really all just marketing and some computer controlled limit. After all, they have to maintain an hierarchy of model and to reduce the hp of the GTS 4.0 by simply reducing the redline limit by a couple of hundred is the easiest way to do this without investing too much money. Are you really going to miss those last few hp? Not unless your last name is Schmacher or Hamilton but will you miss the last couple hundred of revs? Well, missing it, I don't know but at your next cars and coffee, you can't say that your car revs to 8k redline so really that's where it's at.

If it was 8500-9000, then we'd have even more complaints re long gear ratios

Default chasing it

Went to my local dealer and asked about the manual stating that the PDK version of the GTS has n 8K redline. Was a surprise to them. They plan to ask Porsche next time they have a technical discussion. Appears it might be a case of the manual printing getting ahead of reality.

The owner’s manual is wrong because my pdk GTS shifts at 7800 RPMs. The tachometer shows red beginning at 7800 RPMs.

I was happy to read about the 8,000 RPMs thing, but it is false.
