"Smiles / Miles" break-in begin....

 

Something to do this weekend.

 

Wow, what a mess! But that wire brush and flapper wheel should make quick work of it...

 

No, those age for other projects Westie. It was mostly brake dust, with a bit of rubber and probably a bit of tar thrown in. Cleans right off with a maintained ceramic coating.

 

Job well done!

I too ceramic coat the wheels including the barrels and then maintain them for easy cleaning.

How do you maintain the coating? Which coating is original and which is maintenance product?

I used Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light: Ceramic Coatings - Gtechniq

Over this you can use almost any top coat including synthetic wax, but I chose Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax and Detailer for touch ups.

 

The original coating was applied by Moe at Glistening Perfection when he did my PPF, etc. He applied a high temp ceramic to the wheels including barrels, I can look up the name on the receipt if you want, The 2 products in the pic are for maintenance. The PERL has SIO2 at a high percentage, I use it on the plastic fender liners and the rubber tires at 3:1 dilution (3 parts water, 1 part PERL). ECH2O is a spray and wipe detailer, much lower in SIO, the wheels barrels get sprayed with Perl and spritzed with ECH2O, the faces of the wheels the opposite, heavier on the ECH2O. This is for a good detailing, maybe once or twice a year, I normally just wash and hit them with ECH2O or Griot’s Speed Shine when dry. The PERL and ECH2O are carpro products.

 

we used CQuartz DLUX

assuming wheels have a clear coat, first deep clean wash, use wheel cleaner, IronX, and clay if needed

then, hand polish with a mild paintwork cleanser

then clean with CarPro Eraser

apply DLUX per manufacturer directions

IR curing is recommended, or you can leave in the sun, or just mount and the heat of the wheels will eventually cure the coating when you take it for a drive

just no washing with soap for about a week

Chris Marlin did my GT4 and it looks Awesome and made it Super-Easy to Clean & Re-detail.

I also had the Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra applied to complete wheels.
I also requested that the Brake-Calibers be done as well.



Made it super easy to clean them after I drove the 2,032 miles in the 6-days for the suggested Porsche Break-in-Miles.
