Got my first Porsche, a base 718 Cayman last year at age 63. Represent! I am currently plotting the second purchase when I retire in 18 months

GT4 - 50th Bday gift (to myself) last year. Love the car so far and likely even more when Soul valved rear section arrives in a few weeks!

HBD @GTS-Jim by the way. Hope I can still get in and out of LWBS when I hit 70! Cheers!

These mid engine cars are very cool. That’s putting them up against 356/911 stable mates.

All us older dudes will tell you....enjoy the ride it’s shorter than you think. 🏁😁

I'm wondering what the average age of a 718 4.0 driver is.

I've made the order as a 30th birthday present for myself, I've worked 14 years (pretty much entirety of my 20s was work) and I thought if not now then when?

Apologies if this was discussed already

edit: my pick was a boxster gts 4.0
When I was 30 years old I was in my second year of residency as an Anesthesiologist. I was earning $34,000/yr and driving a Honda Prelude. I remember looking at an Audi A4 and thinking "someday".

The idea of owning a Porsche, let alone 2, wasn't even on my radar. I am now 55.

I suspect a lot has to do with your other financial obligations. I always owned nice cars but a $100k+ pure toy wasn't until we had funded 4 kids for private school and college and paid off our 2 homes.

I despise debt. My first 2 Porsches were both Cayennes. An S and then GTS, so they served my needs as kid mobiles too.

GT4 at essentially 39. It was my goal to get a GT3 by 40... this is close enough. Ever since I saw the 911 RSRs live at Le Mans in 2017 I wanted a GT3 so bad. Didn't think I would ever get a Porsche in my lifetime let alone a GT.

I don't think I would have gotten either honestly if the rona never happened...

When I was 30, I also driving a BB6 Prelude with body kit, big wing, vtec controller, DTM style exhaust... etc. very ricey and with a car seat and a booster inside the car. Ordered my first Porsche (718 2,5T CGTS) 3 yr ago at 47 to celebrate our life as being mortgage free. And at 50 now, we are waiting our GT4 to be build in July. Need some big wing and freshly color for my mid-life crisis. Oh well I also have a boost blue FK8 typeR for my feel young crisis too.

I can so relate! I’m a Family Physician and student loans, putting 2 kids through university and private school put the Porsche sports car on the back burner. I had a goal of a 911 by 30 but we got a Cayenne S at 40 (technically my wife’s car) and (again) a Cayenne e-hybrid for my wife in 2019. Finally my turn at 54 for a BGTS 4.0. My Covid “present” to myself at 54. Covid taught me: Life is too short…

Will be 32 when GT4 arrives in November. First Porsche was current 718 Cayman S at 28. Wanted a GT4 ever since seeing the original at an autocross in 2016.

Hey there Thundabyr - are you dropping this date into an Excel/Google sheet perhaps? I think it's fascinating. From a quick cursory scan it looks like the <40 is the GT4 crowd, and the >60 the Spyder crowd (has more time to don and doff the top?), with the GTS crowd somewhere in the middle. So interesting. Can we set this up like a survey that will produce a graph?
